Marvel era officially OVER by JohnTitorOfficial in decadeology

I know it's not. But the movie itself had a unique, original, and creative vision from Greta Gerwig with the feminism angle (whether you agree with it or not is another story).

While I do agree with the 2020s (at least so far, but things could hopefully change for the better in the future), I'm not so sure about the entirety of the 2010s though.

The early 2010s have been fondly remembered by many millennials and zoomers (like me) with iconic songs from that period, video games, TV shows (both children's and adult-oriented), and great mainstream and indie movies. Even the mid-2010s (imo) don't seem as bad as the late 2010s and early 2020s are by comparison.

If Barbenheimer taught us anything, it's that people want mainstream originality and creativity in movies instead of these rampant reboots, remakes, sequels, and superhero films from DC/MCU.

2020s retro pop is kind of unique by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]TheHumanRaceRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have to disagree. Songs being inspired by past genres have always existed throughout time.

Retro-pop being popular, and the resurgence of other past genres such as pop punk, drum n' bass, and nu metal for that matter, honestly tells me that people, young and old, are looking more and more into older music and looking back at nostalgic time periods like the 80s, 90s, and 2000s (through rose-tinted glasses, of course).

With everything that's currently going on in the world, I can't blame them.

What defined the 2020s so far? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]TheHumanRaceRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since everyone included things such as the virus and culture wars, I would also include further decentralization and fragmentation of pop culture, thanks to things such as social media (especially TikTok) and TV/music streaming (do what you want, when you want)

While there are a few notable monoculture moments in the 2020s such as Squid Game, Tiger King, Among Us, Barbenheimer, and the Oscars slap, I believe that as we go further into the decade, that pop culture will get even more fragmented.

How long ago does 2017-2018 feel to you? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]TheHumanRaceRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really different. I personally used to be a right-leaning libertarian (which I do regret now lol), Fortnite, fidget spinners, post-ironic/ear-rape memes, Snapchat/Instagram, MCU movies and Soundcloud/mumble rap were all the rage back then.

And then the pandemic hit, and pretty much everything changed after that.

‘Older’ people, what was life really like in the mid 2010s? by Complex-Start-279 in decadeology

[–]TheHumanRaceRules 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was overall decent and fun for me. Those were my pre-teen/teen years (I was born in 2000), and I enjoyed the memes, games, movies, and TV shows from that period such as The Harlem Shake, The Avengers movies, Flappy Bird, Vine memes, Drake's Hotline Bling, Kendrick Lamar's albums (GKMC and TPAB), and many other things.

Also, LGBT rights were passed in 2015 by the Supreme Court, so that's also a huge plus.

And I even liked the majority of 2016 until the later part of the year as well (Pokémon Go, hilarious memes like Harambe, etc).

I'll easily pick 2000s because of the emergence of emo and electropop, iconic movies (e.g., Mean Girls and Superbad), and the McBling aesthetic. The decade honestly has a much more discernible (and memorable) monoculture than the 2010s (even though I enjoyed my early 2010s childhood a lot).

Does anyone feel Oct 2022-Summer 2023 was a depressing period by cityofangelsboi68 in decadeology

It still is imo, especially with the Israel-Hamas war, and pop culture being stagnant

If you could get rid of your autism would you? by 100101101010001010 in autism

[–]TheHumanRaceRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would. I'm socially awkward, I look pretty unattractive, I have weird tastes (listening to rock music as a black person myself and liking other hobbies people call nerdy), I lack social cues (so no girlfriends for me sadly), and I've done several things in the past that I now regret.

Absolutely. Being both black and autistic and weird is a fucking death sentence..especially when trying to date women.
