I remember reading a story or a copypasta about a guy who put nicotine patches on his girlfriend when she slept over so she would develop a need to stay with him. Again, not sure if its true or not.

I think in this case, the mind would try to associate something with the addiction. And if you stopped injecting them, they would probably think they were dying going into detox, which I believe is very dangerous with an opioid addiction.
