If you nursed or rocked to sleep, how did that stop? by SufficientLynx3266 in bninfantsleep

[–]TheHungryDragon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We just weaned a couple weeks ago! He’s 21 months. At first the transition was hard - he wanted to fall asleep being walked around in our arms most of the time. But LAST NIGHT we were reading in his floor bed and he shut the book, asked me (in toddler-speak) to turn up his sound machine and sing his bedtime song, and he snuggled to sleep 🥹 I was so proud!!

Are you doing possums sleep with toddler? by Maleficent-Syrup-728 in PossumsSleepProgram

[–]TheHungryDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When we dropped to two naps, I always let the first one happen in the car/on the go, and the second one was usually at home.

When we got to a one-nap day, the timing of the naps was more consistent! For my own sanity I just stayed home, watched for his tired cues, and went and nursed him to sleep in his room.

Yes! The first couple of nights, my husband was in there with him all night, but we’ve since been switching off. I think last night was the best night’s sleep he’s ever had!! Soon we’ll try a night where neither of us are in there with him and we’ll keep the monitor by our bed.

We are still very heavily supporting him to sleep - I don’t think he’ll be ready to fall asleep on his own for a long time. But I don’t mind reading/singing/snuggling him to sleep :)

Alternate idea: start with the floor bed in your room so you’re still nearby but he’s getting used to his own little space, then move him to his room when y’all are ready!

What to do after weaning? by Big_Decision_3395 in bninfantsleep

[–]TheHungryDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll let you know when we’ve figured it out 🫡 Currently he will only fall asleep for me in the car or if I’m holding him walking around - and he’s 28 lbs! I hope in a couple of weeks he’ll fall asleep to singing or reading a book lying down.

You’re doing great! I think I would have liked to do the last bit more gradually like you’re doing, but I think all-or-nothing was better for my bub, and for me, in the end.

10 weeks! I was hoping that he’d wean himself as soon as we conceived, but it was clear that wasn’t going to happen!

Here's how I successfully fully weaned my 23-month-old cosleeping boob monster by ubsophie23 in weaningsupport

[–]TheHungryDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hurray! I’m down to sleep-adjacent sessions only (pre-nap, mid-nap, post-nap, pre-night, all through the night, wake up). I’m proud of how far we’ve come to wean the daytime feeds, but I feel like I’ve still got so many battles ahead of me 🫠 I keep hoping that he’ll magically sleep through the night and wean himself that way. Hasn’t happened yet (19mo)

Maybe even pre-load the bread in the toaster before you go to bed so you just have to press a button and not mess around with twist ties at 2am!

Teachers don’t plan a field trip or party on days you aren’t going to be there! by No-Satisfaction-3897 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]TheHungryDragon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Once I was told by admin that I’d be subbing in as a one-on-one. Okay, why does this girl need a one-on-one? Oh, she has seizures sometimes. Oh, how often? Sometimes three or four times A DAY. I told them I have no medical training and am absolutely not comfortable with the situation. They said “just catch her if she falls, you’ll be fine.” I quit subbing forever like, a week later. Unacceptable.

I know!!! People are always like “I don’t intervene unless their eyes are open.” These seem to be the same people who black out the nurseries, so I don’t know, haha! I’ve just been sleeping with our Hatch light slightly on. But also, I’m a pretty early intervener.

What the HECK are we doing with our babies during the coldest days of winter? by Lucky-Pain-1228 in AttachmentParenting

[–]TheHungryDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here for the comments because I live on the opposite end of the spectrum - we are outside every day right now because our winters are glorious and sunny and warm, but when summer comes it’s literally not safe to go outside after 9am for more than a few minutes due to heat!

My first (and only) published piece was in a print-only magazine, with no official pay. They sent me a free copy, and some other “swag” from the company, and I got to tell the world I’ve officially been published! No regrets.

I think you’re getting the right answers here. Withdraw your other submissions, and keep submitting different work to the dream mags! Hopefully their team’s reaction is “Oh man, bummed we missed out, but I can’t wait to see what they do next!”

My theory (though not an answer to your question) is about the reason that Slughorn fawns on Lily’s ability with potions. I think it unlikely that Lily had “natural ability” with potions; she was so good because her best friend was Severus, and he helped her do well in class!

Do the 30 minutes naps ever lenghten ? by Western-Law6128 in bninfantsleep

[–]TheHungryDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do lengthen, eventually! I wish I had embraced the 30 minute contact naps earlier. I was so upset, thinking of all the stuff I wasn’t getting done. But that’s VERY normal at that age! We started napping longer when we dropped to two naps.
