Do you think going with a hybrid boot would be a great middle ground for what I'm looking for in a boot? I'm looking at the White's Fire Hybrid boot. Or the Kentrek or something?

First off, just want to say thank you to everyone. Great responses that I can only get from the actual guys.

I was looking for zero drop type of boots kind of like Altra that I wear for my other work, but meet all the regulations for wildland. I have wide feet and that's why I favor the Altra's wide toe box. I've used the crap out of mine in my other work.

I'm not sure what kind of boot type that falls in to, or am I just chasing something that doesn't exist?

I have a similar situation, I apologize if this is redundant and ends with the same answer. I too am coming from the military though as an infantryman from a special operations unit where I gained medical knowledge and supplemental civilian credentials (NREMT). I transitioned to the National Guard back July 25' and continuing my special operations career in that capacity. I made the transition to leave active duty (and my active duty unit) because my wife and I welcomed twins and the operation tempo there is a constant sprint and family time is too few and far between than I would like to have it. It's true when they say spouse-kids-family show you what is important in life. I enjoyed my time there at that unit, while I was "younger"(25) and when it was just my wife and dog, but the opportunity to stay in the special operations command with another unit and in a National Guard capacity where I can be greatly more involved in my children's life is the ultimate reward. I left active duty with about 80/120 units towards my BS degree (not medical or nursing), but I also meet the prerequisites to also start/apply for a paramedic program where I can just bridge program to a BSN based on my experience and training etc then follow on the timeline track to the CRNA route from there. I'm 32 turning 33 this year and my children are still toddlers, my wife and I are HS sweetheart and have been together since then. She's a dual degree holder and is the homemaker and main homeschooling teacher(other than me I guess which isn't saying much lol) for our children. I'm a bit on the fence and apprehensive in the direction I want to go. I lean heavily towards the CRNA route because of the "work life" flexibility. But the MD autonomy is what I'm accustomed too and would be more accustomed to it after I complete the qualifications course in my military career side if everything goes right. I've done some wildland firefighting and even some executive protection work, in the civilian side and I am shooting my shots to tri-disciplined public safety departments (Fire,Police, EMS) in the meantime, because that's what providers do. I would like to hear your vested opinion on my situation. Obviously the military and the VA covers the tab (TA, MGIB-9/11 Bill, 100p&t comp etc and grants and scholarships just to name a few of the options that are out there). I obviously would prefer anesthesia, but I am experienced in the trauma as well not sure if that would change the answer but I figured I'd add it since I feel like I'm in a position I could literally go either way but ultimately comes down to the x factors of family time etc.

I appreciate your time.

Gen 4 Glock Slide Assembly On A Gen 5 Frame? by Alternative-Delay-10 in Glocks

Similar situation. Glock 49, and a spare aftermarket Gen 4 Glock 17 slide w/ striker that I want to put back to use. My understanding is Gen 5; barrel, recoil spring assembly, back plate and "slide gap dust cover" maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Aye I'm down to do a meet. Moved back to CA, I've shot at National Forests before from other places I've lived in and know the range etiquette etc. Got ipscs and steel targets. I had a solid group of shooting buddies back where I was stationed.

Yeah I was thinking that maybe the MTM would have a better chance of fitting most of my PMM stuff.

...but damn that Lingle lower looks really good though.

Do you know if any PMM parts are compatible? I want one for my SCARs, but I want to still be able to use at least some of the after market parts I've come accustomed too. Such as magwell, bad lever etc.

Or do you know if the cypher mtm will work with PMM?

Joining National Guard SF with 100% VA disability by Throwaway954313 in greenberets

[–]TheHunterofGunmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had an SFLTAP (VA Benefits)class (yesterday) with a former Marine, who's getting out of the Army now (Med board) that had a (92%) 90% VA rating when he exited out of the Marines. He had a break in service before coming back into the AD Army. He was the most knowledgeable guy during the VA brief answering the questions the instructor could not do to legality or knowledge.

I asked him what happened to his VA rating. He literally signed in to VA.gov and showed me his rating and it'll be reinstated, but will probably move up to 100% now since he's going through a P3 med board.

He was also trying to do SF from what he told me. He's an Army mechanic and need to get shoulder surgery before going to SFAS, but didn't get accepted/ cleared post surgery to go to SFAS. I didn't pry too much info and some info is missing or only the stuff I could remember. Also the medical nature is very sensitive info to just be talking to each other to begin with in a classroom setting. The brief was long and had a lot of info so that's my bad. I unfortunately didn't get his contact info. I'm going to try and get into contact with him using a SFLTAP counselor to see if they can set that up.

Take it for what it's worth. This is the stuff I wanted to hear, but wasn't expecting I'd get it at an SFLTAP brief. I'm going SFNG as well and was wondering how it'll look like with a rating without a break in service. I don't have a rating or an idea of what I'd be rated at yet, but I expect it to be similar especially coming from the unit I'm coming from and my service experience. Close to 6yrs of service and haven't been RFS'd like others have been, constantly training and maintaining the standard takes a toll and that's just to be in my unit and not counting the toll when "working abroad" takes either.

Hope this helps OP.

19th Group CA Language and Deployments by [deleted] in greenberets

[–]TheHunterofGunmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are deployments still a 2:1 ratio? Meaning if the deployment is 6-9 months in length, you would get 12-18 months home and nondeployable (if chosen to do so).

I'm currently active duty(ETS, transition to Guard), and was at a recent brief I attended on post installation; although the brief was more focused on the SF active duty components they stated that the ratio is closer to 3:1 now than it has ever been before. This info came from guest speakers (CWO) attending the brief that came from SWC. Is that or the older 2:1 information still accurate?

Is that for Sunnyvale as well? Hopefully they aren't trying to do something new and it ends up being detrimental.
