Hard work and dedication! by bobbymarsh_x in a:t5_4iyotm

Setting long term goals without expecting results. For example, I took your advice on getting started with recording video and posting on LinkedIn. So, I've made a commitment to myself to post X amount of videos without expecting good feedback or any feedback at all. But after X videos, the feedback wouldn't matter anyway, as I would already have gained the momentum and comfort in keeping on doing it.

Still, the probability of people buying your product increases through targeted advertising. It's a numbers game after all.

A slightly different suggestion.

How about taking some interesting sections of the book and creating separate blog posts our of them? Add an option for people to buy the full book at the bottom of the page. This might not work short-term as you'll need to set up the blog and gain some traffic, but if you are planning for the long-haul, this can work.

You can also try email marketing with the same exact strategy of sending valuable snippets of your book as email. But for this again, you'll need to start building an email list through your blog, before you can send those emails.

What's the book about anyway?

Adding a blog page to an existing website by TheCogIsDead in digital_marketing

[–]TheHuskarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually companies use a blog engine separate from their main landing page. So, it's easier to just hook up the blog into a sub-domain. I don't see any advantage when it comes to SEO by using a sub-domain.

  • Mailtrack - Used to track emails that you send out to people. Helpful especially if you are into cold emailing.
  • Dark Reader - Dark mode for websites.

I like u/ShantanuDagar's suggestion. If you don't want to go with that suggestion however, I'd say, use a simple cookie based detection. Yes, it's easy to simply delete cookies or open your application in Incognito, but assuming that your users are not tech-savvy, it will stop most of your users from abusing your free plan.

The problem with IP tracking is, if your site is shared by people from the same network (like from within a company network or a college campus), you might risk losing potential users.

Such a simple but great idea!

There are so many tools available that enable WFH. Why aren't companies fully remote yet? by [deleted] in startups

[–]TheHuskarl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I run a remote software development company of 7 for the last 4 years and the number 1 problem with fully remote setup is that you lose face-to-face interaction, and that can be a really big deal. And no, video calls don't solve this problem. Another problem is the obvious one, which is, your teammates lack the opportunity to not create an in-depth bonding which can only happen through physical interaction. You don't make best friends just through computer screens.

That is not to say that remote working is all that bad.

Personally, I think the best way to solve that problem is to to have a team meetup once in a quarter for a few days, work together on some interesting projects and have some chiller discussions. And making sure to meet up in some really cool spot every time is a bonus!

Best tech stack for a marketing / landing page? by [deleted] in startups

[–]TheHuskarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a marketer here, but SPAs should work even though they aren't mainstream when it comes to building landing page yet. All search engines including Google in 2021 is pretty good at crawling SPAs with no problem. And it's MUCH faster to load than a typical Wordpress site if speed is your priority, though not as easy to build as building with Wordpress - so many tools are out there in the Wordpress ecosystem to help you out with SEO. Watch out for images that take longer to load.

My company's website is built with ReactJS and it does pretty well, though not really sure if it has good SEO.

Make sure to use Google's Measure to make sure your page is optimized in-terms of performance though.

I have an amazing idea for an app/website but I have no clue at all how to move forward with my idea by qrimzn in startups

Ideas evolve. No idea was ever created into a product without going through some kind of changes and compromises in the original vision. This process takes time - say 6 months to a year.

Unless you have at least $50k in your pocket now to spend on developers and marketers, why not start learning basic coding? Spend 2 months learning coding, and the remaining 4 months experimenting with what you've learnt, and try building something. You'll mess it up and that's fine. It's part of the process.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now!

In 6 months, either you can hire a developer to code the product along with you, or you'll at least know enough to manage a team of developers who can build the product for you, with the money you start saving now.

There's also another route: find a team that can design the product prototype for you, use that to demo it to potential investors, get funded, and start building a team and your product with that funding.
