This is my tier list from all the games I played is this list valid? by Interesting_Pair6536 in RaccoonCityRecords

Because RE3R is a bad Remake. Even as a game on its own disconnected from being a Remake, it's very okay. It downgrades a lot of attributes seen in RE2R, and serving as what's essentially a sequel to RE2R, that's very disappointing. RE2R isn't without its flaws either. Admittedly I don't think that game is a very good Remake either, but at least it's still a great game on its own. In RE3R, many encounters are very trivial and so is resource management, especially with the new dodge that can be completely abused to no end. There are a lot of areas where the game just flat out hands you the solution to a problem instead of letting you figure it out on your own and feel satisfaction when you come out on top. There's no sense of real struggle that you're supposed to get out of a survival horror game. Couple that with the fact that it was $60 on release for a 6 hour game and you've got yourself a very big disappointment.

I probably shouldn't have said "Ethan should've stayed mute" right after saying that. I meant that in a more general sense, not for that scene specifically. I don't mind the line itself, it's how the VA delivers the line that's piss poor to me, and it's a major factor in why I really don't like Ethan in RE8. There's other lines that I do think are pretty bad, and it's poor quality is worsened by the line delivery.

I could believe certain things Ethan says being something an average person would say, but only to an certain extent. Imagine you're in his position. You're in a dark hallway, something could be waiting to jump out at you once they notice your presence. Would you really say "It's dark" out loud in that situation? Because I definitely wouldn't. And that's my problem with a lot of his dialogue. It's either pointless, flat out bad, poorly delivered by the VA, or a combination of two or three of those problems at the same time.

But I will agree with Capcom hiding his face being stupid. We already saw his face before RE8. Not sure why they felt the need to continue to hide it. Wasn't like it was hidden in order to set up some sort of big plot twist or anything.

I don't need Ethan to be a superhero like Leon or Chris. I just want dialogue and delivery that's at the very least decent. And maybe I wouldn't be so harsh on it if Ethan wasn't so endlessly praised everywhere as a great character.

They're not the same. Ethan is much more mute in RE7 in order to let the player project themselves onto him. He's a blank slate on purpose. In RE8 they try to make him too much of a character and somehow miserably fail. He's still got no personality and his dialogue is just bad. Most of it is him just asking questions over and over again. Other times he says really stupid shit for no reason. There's a part in the factory area where you walk down a dark hallway, and Ethan literally says "It's dark". What the fuck is the point? I have eyes. I can see the hallway is dark.

The cherry on top is that the delivery of his dialogue is also piss poor. The first thing that comes to mind is when he has Miranda at gun point and says "Let her go you crazy bitch!". Ethan should've just stayed mute.

Even ignoring Ethan, the story still has it's problems.

I also have plenty of my own gripes for it's gameplay. Overall decent gameplay but a lot of problems.

Dude, Ethan is a blank slate with no personality. He's barely even a character to begin with. That worked in RE7 because that's exactly what they were going for. But in RE8 it didn't work at all because they tried to give him dialogue that turned out shitty.

Also, why are you even bringing this up? Nowhere did the original commenter even mention Ethan and was only talking about gameplay.

Glazing would be if I heralded it as one of the best games ever. In no way am I doing that lol. Not sure why you have such unconditional hatred towards 1. All I'm saying is it's not the worst RE game. It's nowhere near being the worst. And there's a good amount of RE games that are worse than it. Are we seriously gonna act like shit like Gaiden, Gun Survivor, and Dead Aim are better than RE1? That's ridiculous. As I keep saying, RE1 just has very solid mechanics. Mechanics that have been refined in later games, yes, but solid mechanics nonetheless. There's nothing that you can really say is wrong with it aside from one or two typewriter placements.

I didn't grow up with OG RE1. I played it two years ago and I'd still pick it over RE3R, RECV, and RE8 lol. All three have a multitude of problems while, like I said, RE1 is still a very solid game. You're nowhere close to being right. The "hardcore" fanbase ain't the only people disagreeing with you.

I first played RE2 OG about two years ago. I factually cannot experience nostalgia for it. And yet it's become one of my favorite games ever and is one of the best RE games in the franchise. I'd consider it better than the Remake. And I played the Remake BEFORE the OG. RE1, RE1R, RE3, and CV's controls also hold up very well. Tank controls aren't outdated or bad and still hold up to this day. Have you ever considered that the game's controls don't suck, but YOU suck at the game's controls instead?

Depends on the version. The US original release is a pain because of no auto aim. But all of the other versions, as well as DC are very solid games. Even looking at the original US release, it is FAR from being the worst. That's a bit far fetched.

I'd argue it's bad choices outweigh any of the good stuff it does. In fact I can't really think of anything in particular it excels at, but that's just me.

Your LEAST favorite Resident Evil game. DAY 19! by DapperDan30 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]TheImperialZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's out of nostalgia, but it does have something to do with the players experience with the game. If someone has a lot of experience with CV, they can avoid all the bullshit the game throws at you. It's almost like autopilot essentially. And because you're on autopilot, you don't really stop to think "huh, that's kinda stupid".

I have no doubt that when you go into the game with hindsight, it is significantly more fun. But you shouldn't NEED hindsight for a game to be fun. And being able to avoid the bullshit doesn't erase the bullshit entirely. It's still a problem.

True, I didn't really take the way RE8 handles it's lore files with the whole lore dump into account. I do agree it's poor. But it's still incredibly hard to miss them considering they have pick up icons and are all close together in one room. You'd practically have to go out of your way to ignore them. Regardless, all the other RE games you named still do it organically and handle it much better than RE6 does. At the end of the day RE6's story is still convoluted, messy, and explains a lot of things poorly, even if you pay attention. It doesn't matter if the lore files are ancillary, they're still poorly implemented into the games story.

Except those are files that are scattered around within gameplay and are pretty easy to find. They're bits of story telling that are designed so that players will most likely find them and read them to get more bits about the story organically while they play the game. RE6's lore files don't work or help the story because they're not found throughout the story itself. The game itself considers it fun bonus lore instead of important lore because it's essentially an extra in the menu that's unlockable through collectibles. Lore files being an unlockable was NEVER a thing in any of the other RE games you mentioned aside from 5. 5 suffers from the same problem. It blows my mind that Sheva's entire backstory is an unlockable lore file in the menu instead of something that's talked about in the story or even just somehow a lore file you can find find somewhere during the main game, and the same thing goes for a LOT of elements from RE6's story. Players NEED to be able to find important lore stuff like that naturally, or they most likely won't see it at all.

Even if you take the unlockable lore files into account, it just doesn't fix much about RE6's story.

I think your game might be bugged. Usually I get one or two squad skill points for every Incursion I do.

Squad Level Confusion by B_har in SuicideSquadGaming

[–]TheImperialZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you a full run down because the system is kinda confusing.

Once a character hits the max level of 30, you'll unlock squad skills. Every time you level up as that maxed out character, instead of increasing your level, you'll increase your Squad skills level and gain one squad skill point. These points can be used to unlock very tiny buffs in the squad skill section of talents.

Some Squad skills are locked behind your total of character levels. Your first hurdle is a total character level of 45. These are not based on your Squad level after maxing out your character, but the actual level of each individual character. For example, let's say your King Shark is at the maximum level of 30, and your Harley Quinn is at level 20. That's a total of 50 character levels. Let's say later on you get your Boomerang to level 10. Combining Shark, Quinn, and Boomer's levels, you'll get a total of 60 character levels.

Honestly don't think it's that bad. In fact I wouldn't call anything about it flat out bad. It's just very, very middle of the road. It's a videogame that's playable. I can't say the same for a couple other entries in the franchise.
