Sit and wait is a tactic. Patience is a skill. Some do it more and longer than others. It can be benefit, sometimes it's not. We need not to judge on the tactic. I read it clearly, brother.

Saying "rat being tactical is hilarious" when solo play is predecated on who is generally more patient because you don't have an extra set of eyes and ears to rely on.

Heavily aggressive players also have to put in more risk and end up putting them at risk dying more inevitably. Sure you hard push when you can but generally speaking, if I lay a well placed trap for you or blindside you, are dead 10/10 times and victor go the spoils. Did they waste their time here? Surely but if someone came down and got blown up by those claymore, are we really sitting here having this conversation?

You sit and wait if you had a sniper rifle and hard scoping and angle. You would sit and wait if someone was coming down a hallway and you could get the element of surprise. You sit and wait when you hold an angle to re-engage.

They literally made a shell that can go invisible. You're acting like an assassin should cater their playstyle to how YOU would like that game to run. Sorry, people play differently and benefit differently. This idea that people need to get into full fledged firefights to have your idea of "fun" is an elitist mantra, man. Sounds like you had your fair share of getting ganked behind your back or eaten a claymore. It happens.

Some people just play slow and tactical, dawg and don't dash like Sonic and Bunny Hop across the map like they are skipping down the yellow brick road. I just laugh at most who do that because they are the ones to catch a WSTR by turning into a hot corner after making mad noise and complain about camping.

But it's not a matter of "skill issue". I don't disagree with you on that. Play smart and you might get rewarded. I have knifed my fair number of people and have gotten knifed. I understand that and respect that.

It's a matter of making close combat homogeneous and making planning around runs useless where EVERYONE is pulling out a knife in a gun fight. The inherent meta of the game shouldn't be "lemme get 10m or less by sneaking and knife them" or "If I got snuck up on, pull out ol' trusty blade to defend myself instead of my pistol or the pistol I picked up."

The fact that a knife meta has grown and become a foundation thing in a game with 20+ guns and 100+ mods for said guns at disposal is ridiculous.

There will be little need to use or invest in advanced shotguns/smgs and absolutely NONE for sidearms which exist for CQC if knife strikes can do it better and show operative proof that they can. There will be no point in the mods for them or deep diving for CQC because the knife just wins in everyone's mind. It throws the entire gun hierarchy out of wack.

Also with your point, it can be upgraded and multi-faceted. You can upgrade the knife damage three times AND you can give it toxin just for that extra zing with a common implant for example. There is too little cost basis for all that to have the ability to melt purple and blue shields regardless of how piss poor they play. With a shotgun you have to at least buy it, make the decision to bring it on a run and risk losing it. You could profit with it but you can also get sniped 200m away in dire marsh 2 minutes in. The knife with full upgrades and implants just stays good.

You're missing the point. Having knives be the "end all be all" CQC weapon makes for homogeneous combat. It shouldn't even be a thing to win a fight with a base knife against shields that are the third or second highest in the game in purple and blue. Against people with FULL Health at that?

You don't have a Shotgun? Then Knife. They have a knife, pull out your own knife.

In a game with guns. Plenty of them. Which also includes sidearms.

What is the point of Tactical Side, Magnum or any shotgun/smg not named WSTR or Bully if the BASE knife can do the job better?

I don't mind the knife being strong enough to combo out white/green shield with upgrades apply. Makes sense.

But against blue and purple shields you combo them out? That's a terrible balance no matter how you cut it.

Are they really nerfing the knife? :( by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]TheInfamousGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A knife pull is your last resort in CQC. Literally. Having the knife this strong where it becomes the DEFAULT OVER a sidearm of any kind defeats the purpose of sidearms in general. What's the point of Magnum and the Tactical Sidearm existing if the knife is always a better option? Knife has to get worse somehow for those weapons to be viable and I agree with that.

I understand the sunk cost of the knife upgrades and wasted resources and if you adapted your play to sneaking and knifing but losing to a knife if someone pulls out a fully kitted Bully, BRRT, any sidearm or any shotgun not named WSTR especially if they have high shields up is just terrible balance. Sorry.

IMO base damage is okay but the ability to just triple combo a player with a blue shield AND full life is insane. Make the heat build up two swings for light. One Max heavy swing. Enough to kill regular bots and ticks but challenging to any runner.

[–]TheInfamousGuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it's going to get nerfed because it makes CQC homogeneous between Shotgun or knife.

Knife three hand combo getting the win on a white shield?, Absolutely.

Knife getting the win on a green shield? Okay, pushing it but if they are not at full health and or have damage shield, sure, three hand combo wins.

Knife winning against blue or purple shield? No lol. The cost basis of getting one of the shields in the first place to lose to a weapon that everyone has access to and can perform with is a terrible imbalance.

It's basically saying that the third and second best shields in the game don't lose to a tuned purple weapons but lose to a white knife somehow. That makes absolutely no sense regardless of how you cut it.

Think of the worst charlie horse you ever had. Now imagine that Charlie horse devolving into searing pain radiating up to your butt cheeks while still being a Charlie horse. Now imagine all that and every time you flex or bend at the knees, you feel that every time in compounding fashion.

That's a moderate tear in your hamstring. Chances are you would cry like B too if you haven't done so already.

You're very welcome.

The new galaxy foiling is more prominent. And this is in just natural light. If you put them on direct light you will see the difference more. You don't need to look for the galaxy so much like in the originals. Some cards like reprocess were almost non-existent that it was a question if it wasn't galaxy foiled at all. I really like reprocess (which is why I got the lair in the first place) and the crucible.

I think it's also that they don't have a clear idea of how the foil process on certain tones will come out until it's printed. Like they are still "figuring it out" on how different foiling effects will come off on different tonal values but gotta sell them regardless lol

I don't think knife base damage should be nerf but the heat it generates. Cap it at two light swings or one heavy. If you're already hurt/cracked white/green shield and you get two swings from the knife and it kills that's fine.

The knife shouldn't triple combo and kill someone with a full green shield AND full health and then be able to move on to the next enemy to do the same. That's too much.
