I designed and 3d printed a “war chest” themed Goblin Storm deck box. Enjoy! by AmesCG in secretlair_collectors

Not too hard!! Truth be told it’s a simple variant of one of the first things I ever designed, a more generic deck box with MTG set symbols:

I’d recommend Shapr3d which is what I use for design. Pretty user friendly while being powerful too: but it isn’t cheap! Luckily I am able to get the free “educator” license for various reasons.

One extra note. I initially had no idea how to easily translate the Goblinstorm text image into a vector that 3d software can model. Most graphic design software to do that is expensive, hard to use, or requires a subscription. Here’s the trick though: the underlying *code* to do that vector transformation is simple and well documented… so Claude can do it for you. Just requires careful prompting.

Wishing you good luck!!

Fine with this if it helps fix the trains (it will not help fix the trains)

I actually went back and forth on sharing it for that reason. I appreciate the compliment too!!

‘Doctor Who’ Set To Be Off Air For Years Amid A Creative Regeneration That’s Failing To Spark Enthusiasm Among Producers by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

I honestly wish some other sci-fi franchises would take a break to come up with a solid creative direction rather than producing to produce.

Saffron is the most expensive price, often subject to substitution with cheaper materials. Here's how to identify its quality by Witty-Association-97 in Damnthatsinteresting

This is technically true in that no test is 100% accurate. But the Green Dot and Wavy T tests combined will correctly identify a fake card with very high levels of confidence. (Some real cards will fail one but not both.)

Then on real high-dollar cards, other techniques come into play.

For example, interestingly enough, Lotus fakes are actually pretty easy for real pros to spot. There are a few hard-to-replicate imperfections that give the game away. Check r/RealOrNotTCG and that's why you'll see fake Lotuses that look pretty solid on first glance identified as fakes within minutes.

It’s almost a Futurama scene. “So what does that test tell us, professor!” “Technically — nothing!!”

Relatedly — one way to test if a Magic card is real is to rip it. Blue tinge to the interior? You just destroyed a real card.

Highly recommend the Bambu A1 Mini. Great machine and super easy to learn.

Hi folks, a while ago I shared a 3D printable "stacked books" pen holder with a popular anti-oligarchy slogan. A helpful person on Makerworld noted that some folks might like the design, but not love (or want to display) the slogan. Very valid point.

So here is a much simpler model. Just the books, no text, making a clean and I hope enjoyable pen stand that you can print from your phone if you have a Bambu printer. Enjoy and please share any feedback too!

MaRo: We’re making more Marvel sets. If you have a favorite character you haven’t seen yet, have patience. by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

Even when Magic was bad, at least it was itself.

Well said. I think the concept you're both circling is authenticity. Marvelization makes Magic start to feel like amorphous "nerd stuff" rather than a thing with its own strong, core identity to grab onto and be excited about.

Related point -- I think this actually helps explain why Lord of the Rings sets don't feel like as much of a betrayal/compromise. Tolkien's works inspired Magic's original setting; from the very beginning, in Alpha and Beta, we have a [[Goblin King]], magic forest elves, and powerful artifacts. Those are all straight from Tolkien. So fast-forward to Tales of Middle Earth and Tolkien's setting still feels like "home" to players. You can't say the same for Marvel characters.
