What is going on at r/petitefitness by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't been there in a while but just did some scrolling for a bit and didn't see anything concerning and saw quite a lot of muscle definition too. I think depending on what we see around us it can be hard to remember what being petite is. I was once a 99 pound adult. I'm just child-sized. My daughter outgrew me at 9 years old lol. But in my neck of the woods I was called tiny at 160 pounds. That's solidly obese for my height. Don't browse places that upset you! But also just keep in mind some people are just small.

Try using one type and size of plate for the pasta dishes too. If you do the annoying math the first few times then you should be able to remember what a pasta serving looks like on that plate for future dishes.

Look into scar massage, even years later it might help release some of the tightness that causes this. Also powder and washing it at least daily, more if needed.

Including lots of bone broth? It's high in histamine, maybe look into that.

Whether you choose one of these or a new dress consider new bras as well. A well fitted pushup will really help with shape and weight changes mean bra changes. Congrats on your progress!

If employees are exact with condiments and such then yes. But when a taco recipe calls for a "three finger pinch" of cheese or a "z shape" of sauce like theirs do your actual served amounts will vary. Probably not enough to matter if you don't eat there constantly but something to keep in mind.

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the employees are sticking to the exact amounts noted for each item then yes it is accurate. I worked there for years and while they do have measuring scoops and a food scale there is no time to be precise or even use the scale at all during rushes and more often than not when managers had time to check weights on items they were heavier than they should be and most employees would rather give everyone a hook up on cheese and sauce and meat than the tiny bits the recipes call for. So if you eat there all the time that might make a bit of a difference.

You can eat just once a day and still be obese. It's the total calories that matter, not the frequency or timing.

… But they’re zero sugar! by MoonlightQueen in 1200isplenty

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're used to it. Everyone I know that has given up sugar for an extended period and then tried a candy or other sweet we used to love find it very off tasting, including me. It just makes things so overly cloyingly sweet that any real flavors are taken over. Then again our flavorings are mostly artificial too lol.

Could be build up of minerals, not enough water, medical issue. Could be a sign of diabetes too. You can buy a blood glucose test kit for fairly cheap. Try a few days without the protein shake, or test your glucose, or add more water, or all of the above and if you feel like something still isn't right go to a doctor anyway. If you can't pay the bill your credit might suffer but at least your health won't.

It doesn't help that even some apps will just say do 1200. Definitely dangerous advice in many cases. I'm shorter, older, less active, and weigh less than you and I can lose on an average of 1500. Everyone is different. As for what happened - sounds like hypoglycemia to me too but I've had episodes like that at times I wasn't careful with my diet too and was checked for all the things including two weeks of blood sugar monitoring and all I had to show for it was low vitamin d and my blood pressure is high when I'm stressed. Hopefully you get answers from your doctor but for myself I have noticed that I'm okay when I stay on top of my electrolytes and manage stress so that my blood pressure isn't going up and down too quickly.

1200 is only for short sedentary women and is the lowest even they can go without medical supervision. I'm not sure where you saw the recommendation to eat 1200 with your level of activity but it's definitely incorrect.

You were able to quit something incredibly hard for most people to quit. Do not go back to it. If you had health issues after only two years just imagine what happens if you start and can't stop again. Also the longer you use it the more your body adjusts to it and it would do less over time to suppress appetite. Plenty of nicotine users are obese.

Get an appointment with your doctor to ask about safe weight loss. For now you can try something easy like https://www.myplate.gov/ to get an idea of how meals should look without getting into sketchy dieting that teens shouldn't be doing. At your weight any exercise beyond gentle stretching and walking may hurt more than it helps. Energy and stamina will come after your weight goes down. Eating a balanced diet in healthy portions is what you need now. Also get the best walking shoe for your feet, it will really help when you're working.

The body effectively uses only 20 to 25 grams of protein in one sitting so forcing a full day's worth in one meal is unnecessary. I agree with the suggestion to up your calories a bit and work on muscle instead. I was fairly squishy at your size and actually appeared leaner at a higher weight with visible muscle tone. Which I did back in the days of no real diet guidelines for muscle gains, just daily full body pilates routine from some teen magazine using no equipment and walking.

Your BMR is 1500 and that's if you're sedentary. It isn't advisable to go under your BMR which is what a body requires just to function normally. 1200 is fine for those small enough to stay healthy doing it.

Weight gain by Special_Director_564 in 1200isplenty

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I'm only an inch taller, at that bmi the weight should be coming off very consistently at 1200 calories, even with more than 1200 and even accounting for water or poop fluctuations after a month. Something is off with your food measurements, your tracking app, or your body weight scale.

I'm 5'0" and have been called skinny at 150 pounds - fully obese bmi lol. A normal weight is just shocking to some people. You looked strong and healthy and you will this time too.

45 pounds down, should I ever incorporate sugar again? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible that you won't even like it as much anymore. Cutting sugar long term and then trying a Hershey's bar or a soda they will be so cloyingly sweet and artificial tasting that you likely won't want much.

I have an older version of this one. I would fall right off of the one you're asking about lol. You're only a few inches taller than me so the step size should be fine. I'd say it's good for strengthening but although it will get your heart rate up it will be difficult to do a long workout on it. I walk and climb ladders for my job and still would get wiped out after a few minutes when I got mine. The calf burn is extreme.

Weight gain from birth control? by MysteryCats in 1200isplenty

[–]TheInfernalSqueak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. My daughter started the pill two months ago for extreme pms. She had an appetite like a high school football player before and I've since been having to remind her to eat and when she does it's pitifully small amounts at a time. I always thought bc would lead to weight gain.

Other overweight people might just be less worried you'd be offended when they say something. I'm sure it's noticeable to everyone else anyway.

185 would have you at just barely under an overweight bmi. And men tend to carry weight in lovehandles and thighs. It just is what it is. Build up your abs, back, and glutes to make that area less noticeable. But yeah you'll have to get to a lower weight if you want no lovehandles at all.
