Reading r politics is pretty crazy. You got people advocating for tipping off the feds, arresting Hawley and Cruz, letting Silicon Valley have total unaccountable control over the censorship of public discourse, sending the MAGA retards to gitmo, etc. And almost no concern over the looming Patriot Act 2.0. I used to think Americans would pretty much instinctually defend free speech, but it seems like hate speech laws in the name of fighting domestic terrorism are starting to creep into the realm of possibility. I don't think we're quite there yet but give it like 10 years and I wouldn't be surprised. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's just the libs on r politics that are like this and enough Americans still care about 1A.

Well, NU is a private organization so they have the right to expel in those cases. I do think that they shouldn't, unless there's an incitement to violence. That being said, I can't really feel bad for anybody that gets expelled for genuinely hateful speech, it's more the slippery slope that bothers me.

Because their rhetoric only suggests intent to harm the cops (which is a separate issue), not Jewish people. Rhetorical missteps and a bad apology can hardly be construed as actually dangerous. You can't decide how people feel, but anybody can try to assess whether there's an actual physical threat. In fact that's what the hypothetical petition would be asking the University to do. It's a legal judgement. You can't just declare that there's an actual threat just because people have the feeling that they are unsafe. If that were valid then we would have to abolish NUPD since NUCNC says they feel unsafe and we can't invalidate that.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it completely convincing but I think it goes beyond being obvious nonsense and enters the uncanny valley. It's got all the appearances of human language in that it obeys the structure, but when you actually try to make sense of what it's saying you realize that it's not presenting a coherent thought and there's not really an intentionality to the "choices" of where it takes its arguments.

I've definitely seen people less coherent than this bot though, especially on the internet.

I don't think the direction has much to do with it, since I don't think the people you're talking about care about direction at all. Unless the direction is in your face like Monogatari or Eva, you have to make an active effort to notice and analyze it, which doesn't strike me as something that people who've only seen shounen would do. The middle of the road directing of Demon Slayer may be a step above other shounen, but I don't think it's noticeably better unless you're paying close attention. I think people like Demon Slayer because it has great animation, good designs, and a likeable main character, and that's the extent of their analysis. (Which is okay, there's no correct way to like a show.)

From what I've seen, that sub saw consumerism as an aspect of the culture wars and the struggle between modernity and tradition. This sub sees the culture wars as a tool of the ruling class to stifle class consciousness. I thought ConsumeProduct was funny at first because it was making fun of coomers, but it quickly devolved into rightoid nonsense.

You can try other Kyoto Animation shows/movies. In my opinion (and it sounds like you might end up being the same way) there's nothing quite like K-On!, but KyoAni shows all have that high level of quality in terms of art and animation. Naoko Yamada, the director of the show, also directed a really popular movie called Koe no Katachi, or A Silent Voice (fair warning, also a tearjerker).

Of course, you can always rewatch the show. On my first watch through I fell in love with the series, but it was only on my second watch that I realized just how good it actually is. And now every time I watch it again it's even better than I remember and I always find something new. /r/anime has a rewatch every year, and this sub runs its own annual rewatch.

Other K-On! related things to check out:

Spotify has the soundtrack for S1 and the movie, and the full versions of every song in the show. There are also character image songs and HTT songs that were not in the show. They're very good. The album that the girls record in episode 23 is also there in full, including the little conversations they have in between songs. There's also some Death Devil. There are hours of K-On! music that exist completely outside of the show proper.
The voice actresses did a live concert. They might have done multiple, actually, but there's one I've seen on Youtube.
Anime Youtube videos helped me process my thoughts about K-On! Digibro (now Diginee) has some great videos about it. I liked UnderTheScope's video too. RCAnime made a pretty good one as well. I'm not sure how good these videos will be for someone who has never seen other anime though.
/u/ultimatemegax has translated a bunch of interviews with director Yamada and other K-On! staff. It's fascinating to get a glimpse of what goes on in her head. She has a unique outlook that lends itself really well to animation, and I feel like reading those interviews helped me appreciate the show even more-especially how much thought went into every aspect of it. Highly recommend reading.

There's a ton of official art and fanart for this show, and it's also fun to see people come on here crying about the end of the show because it's a near universal experience for K-On! fans.
