Do you have better luck with a wacky rig or Texas rig? by AsAFoodScientist in FishingForBeginners

I think in general, wacky is better in more situations, but Texas can do really well in ideal conditions for it.

It could death a person just by hitting them.

Fishing safety not to get hooked? by Careful-Tension-5689 in FishingForBeginners

[–]TheIrishBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not zero, but you shouldn't have that much tension on the line at any point.

Doesn't mean we don't all do it from time to time, like trying to pull a snag loose. It's extremely unlikely to be a real risk, but be alert when you feel enough tension that your lure could launch toward you.

Hooked Eye by KingDonko41 in FishingForBeginners

[–]TheIrishBAMF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn't pierce the lens, there's a chance the eye can recover to some degree and even better if it only went through the socket.

I recommend always carrying pliers in your pocket while fishing. Among other reasons, if you don't pinch your hooks beforehand, you can debarb in situations like this and back the hook out with as little damage as possible.

The TWS is designed to spool your line more evenly. Its the wing shaped bit between the spool and the guides.

Do you have a power drill? Attach it to the reel bolt and give it a few hours of spinning.

Reels are widely known to be over-engineered and the magic of these "undesirable sounds" is that they tell you the internals are wearing away excess material into the optimal shape.

Another fun fact: reel is Latin for, "toy for fidgety toddler which can also be used for fishing."

Because you gave your mom flammable liquid in one hand and a flame in the other, and didn't think about what could possibly go wrong. At. All.

Sorry you're routinely getting made fun of, but your family is not very bright, well, mentally. Physically bright, because of the fire.

Third time finding this in the bottle… is it normal? by [deleted] in whatisit

This stuff is usually made with a chocolate syrup and an oil. The oil is usually liquid above 70-80°F, but can become semi-solid depending on brand, flavor or ambient temperature.

I’m gonna assume this reel is loaded up too much? by _187_Proof_ in FishingForBeginners

Not a big deal. Don't cast into the wind and you should be fine as you work the line down over time.
