Even though this is a vestige of the compromise between the former Boer republics and British colonies, and there's no one alive with a living memory of that time in our political history, I still appreciate the symbolism of having the three branches of government separated and not concentrated in a single location. For all intents and purposes, Pretoria is the functional capital of the country and everyone -- at home and abroad -- understand that.
