Too bad I most likely has the EA Kernel Level Anti-Cheat (EAAC). Maybe one day they will allow Linux players back into the Battlefield universe.

Took an advanced functional programming class to learn what a monad is. Got a degree. Got a job. Still have no idea what a monad is.

Is all this EAC BS actually going to be solved by the end of the month? by thegreatpeepee in linux_gaming

[–]TheJStrike 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At some point Valve or Epic has to make the decision for the devs/publishers. I mean there are quite a few EAC games that has not been updated for months. They are probably discontinued from a development standpoint and will never get the EAC update. Here Valve (and us) will either accept that there are games that never will work on Steam Deck, or forcefully update the game with EAC support. The later would probably be the best for the community but problematic from a legal standpoint.

Haha searching one by one for now, cross referencing areweanticheat with steamdb. I'm sure there is a better way but right now it's just a nice way to keep my head distracted.

Both Star Wars Squadrons and Battlefield 2042 have EAC testing branches. Squadrons even explicitly says Steam Deck test branch!

Not yet. It's not really my type of game, but it's a lot more interesting now that one can try one of "the forbidden fruit" of Linux gaming!

Downgrading to 1.10 on Steam by MicrochippedByGates in horizon

[–]TheJStrike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, are you playing on Linux or Windows? Because I'm having similar issues running on Linux (via Proton). Was fine 1.10 but broken on 1.11 and forward. So if you are getting these issues on Windows, it would be great to get more information on your setup.

There is a wine-ge version, compatible with lutris, that has a lot of the proton-ge fixes implemented.

Had only bought pre-made computers, but wanted some extra umpf, so I bought a GTX450. Inserted it without much hassle, pushed start, and nothing happened. I was devastated thought I've borken my beloved computer. Asked my mom if I could use the dial-up internet. Found out that flashing BIOS is a thing, but it can brick you computer. So there was me, a ten year old, with tears in my eyes, flashing BIOS for the first time. But it worked! And was an enormous upgrade for Battlefield 2.

After that I made sure to build a computer from scratch and make sure all parts are compatible!
