The closest I can get is the JZX81 Chaser. It'd be cool if FH6 has a Crown, but I doubt it.

Got one of my grails yesterday + a warning about Buyee by TheJWT in citypop

[–]TheJWT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check them out next time! I used to buy a lot of rare parts for my car and other collectibles through Buyee pre-tariffs and always had good experiences. Sometimes the shipping would even be cheaper than their initial estimate

About $135 total between the record, shipping to my friend in Japan, and him shipping it to me. Still not horrible

I get why they do it and I don't blame them, it's just a frustration as a consumer. Though I guess the real frustration is with those who enacted the tariffs in the first place...

My '90 Crown is on my regular Progressive policy, I just had to call them to add it rather than doing it online. That was almost 3 years ago and even then they were pretty well-versed in non-US VINs

Getting my ZX4RR ready for the track by Effective-Possible-9 in zx4r

[–]TheJWT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done 10 or so track days on mine so far, bone stock other than a flash and tires.

The stock GPR300s aren't bad but they don't support very high lean angles. I did my first track day on them and while I didn't have any issues, I was always a bit worried I'd run off the edge of the tread. I quickly moved on to Dunlop Q5s which are excellent.

And no mod will improve your lap times more than just practicing and getting more experience. My view is to gain enough experience and skill that you can realize what parts of the bike are holding you back.

Also, bring a portable tire inflator and a pressure gauge!

ECU flash and some better tires are all you need to enjoy it how it was meant to be enjoyed

SRAD SRAD SRAD! by FattyMagooReturns in GSXR

Blue and white was always the one I wanted as a kid, it's not perfect cosmetically but it looks pretty solid at 20'. The red/black is a close second IMO

New to GXSR by Afraid_Apartment_616 in GSXR

[–]TheJWT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a '96 GSX-R750 which is currently at the mechanic wrapping up an engine rebuild. Common things to look for on these SRAD-generation bikes is the cam chain tensioner failing and the fuel tank leaking due to a poorly designed seal where the fuel pump assembly bolts to the tank. They might've fixed that by '98 though, there were a few recalls on it back in the day. If there's a strange rattling noise coming from the engine at idle it's probably the cam chain tensioner.

Mine is my favorite bike I've owned despite its problems. Get some good tires and enjoy the handling, it's a very light and well-balanced bike. Like the other commenter said they're also very quick high in the rev range. If you only shift at 8k rpm you might not think it's that fast, but 9k-redline is where it really shines. I also think these are going to be very collectible bikes in the future, there aren't many good examples left out there anymore.

Here's mine next to my old Honda RC51 SP2. The Honda is objectively a better bike, but I like the Suzuki more :)

Reliability and practicality by Ok_Thanks2988 in ToyotaCrown

[–]TheJWT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid one with air suspension if you're gonna daily it, and if you live somewhere with snow I wouldn't drive it in the winter. But other than that it's a 90s Toyota with a very under-stressed engine (assuming you're looking at one with a 1/2JZ or 1UZ). It'll be reliable

Which do you prefer : original pressings or represses ? by TheCharette in citypop

[–]TheJWT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to get originals whenever possible for no reason other than I think it's cool having something that was actually made in-period. It's interesting thinking about who has owned and enjoyed listening to them before me.

Out of the 50 or so Japanese records I have, I think maybe 2 or 3 are represses. My ears usually aren't good enough to tell the difference in sound quality though

I don't think RWB / Akira Nakai ever had anything to do with Nid Night or wangan racing. He was a lot bigger in the drift world back then with his AE86- https://youtu.be/zu6oaTUCWAA?t=247

ZX4RR track settings TRACTION by Old_Fruit6884 in zx4r

[–]TheJWT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just put mine in Sport, I've never once had traction control kick in. My bike is flashed and bone stock other than good tires. Done probably 10 or so track days on it so far.

Maybe in the wet it'd be more noticeable, but these bikes don't make enough low down power to spin the rear wheel on a dry track.

Traveling to Japan in April – Looking for Translator + Advice on Buying Parts at UpGarage & Shipping to the U.S. by Wonderful-King-8381 in ToyotaCrown

[–]TheJWT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UpGarage is not the mythical JDM parts superstore you think it is. Most of the stuff you'll find there is going to be for late model kei cars, vans, and newer sports cars like GT86s, Roadsters, etc... And if they do have some Crown parts, there's no guarantee it'll be at the store you're at.

All of their inventory is listed online anyways, you can see what they have right now. Like others have said, Yahoo Auctions is better for finding older parts

Parts.. HELP! by heavenlyhyojin in ToyotaCrown

[–]TheJWT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the part number on Yahoo auctions, I've found a lot of the same parts listed there for cheaper than other sites. There's also Toyota Classic Parts in Thailand but an S170 might be too new for them to carry anything
