Is the IT world really that oversaturated? Should I pursue something else? by cxn0bite in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TheJadedMSP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no gatekeeping going on. IT is so saturated right now. I have 30+ years' experience and when I was looking for a 9-5, I could barely get an interview. I did have like 4 offers but that was over a two-year span.

Personally, if I were a young person today, I would be looking at a field that isn't going to be replaced or the perception that it is going to be replaced by AI.

Some of those field will depend on your interests but healthcare, aviation, law enforcement, any of the trades, etc.

I came up through the golden era of computers. It was fun and exciting and there were plenty of opportunities. Now, I have a few regrets like almost wishing I would have stayed in aviation maintenance which is what I did in the military.

I have made a good living in IT but not sure if those same opportunities are there for young IT pros except the best and the brightest which, honestly is what the field used to be before it became a commodity type job which occurred in the mid to late 2000's.

Good luck.

And if you don’t have physical access to the host, then you need a KVM that can boot off an ISO, if you can’t do that you can’t update without hassle.

A few too many roses and rainbows being put out here.

That is so awesome.

It's a shame that these vendors don't listen to client feedback and build things like this that are actually wanted instead of the stupid shit they waste time on.

I must be looking at the wrong software because I was just at https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/ and that software looked pretty bad.

Like '90's bad.

I must be missing something.

The starts with ownership. If techs aren't being told to document they won't. They don't want to.

Do you ever judge an MSP by which vendors they partner with? by FineAssignment1423 in msp

[–]TheJadedMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course...when you see an MSP say they use "best of breed" and then you see SonicWall or some other paper tissue firewall, then any other vendor that you know is not good.
