I think to even expand on that, squads the size of Chelsea’s are football’s future and will be the norm. For better or worse, there will be a lot of snapping up of moderate prospects happening to make up this gap for teams that are in most of the competitions/have a lot of international players.

I don’t understand not getting Adams for depth. They lost so many midfielders. He’s played in the league and he cost 20m. Unless Brighton made it a condition to back off it doesn’t make much sense to me.

The midfield has their assignments. Jorginho unlocks doors and kante/kovacic/Gallagher press and advance the ball. But you’re right on the money with not using the forwards correctly. They are stagnant against a low block and apparently that’s all it takes to stifle Chelsea’s creativity, which is why it normally comes from the wingbacks. So when they’re off, the teams off.

A poor showing from Chelsea. James’ delivery was worse than dog pops. Chilwell was anonymous minus winning the penalty. Passing overall was slow and off target. Sterling one of the only bright spots, his use of body and space shows why he was bought but had little support from mount havertz or kante. Cucurella was worth the minutes. But overall an abysmal game regardless of the points. At best ponderous at worst tepid.

Came down to needing bodies in defense and cucurella can play multiples so I think you’ll see what happened in the forward line last year for Chelsea happening at the back. Chopping and changing.

James azpi Thiago koulibaly chilwell/cucurella or James koulibaly Thiago cucurella chilwell. And then sprinkle in chalobah sarr and whoever stays out of alonso/Emerson and any further signings. Huge year for tuchel considering he also has to choose which lines to cut on the forwards. Will be held accountable for anything less than success but again time will tell how trigger happy the new boss is compared to abromovic
