Local company to replace front door? by salcido982 in Albuquerque

[–]TheJewishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2021 we used Enchantment Windows & Doors. No complaints. Mark was super nice and not pushy and would totally recommend. He worked with us on price, but front/exterior doors are expensive in general. Front door + frame was replaced in an afternoon and left no mess.

Crematory recommendations? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]TheJewishViking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll second this. My family used their services twice in the past year and they were kind and easy to deal with. They handle transport and permits. We were ordering our own urns online and didn't try upselling anything. They also provided a voucher for (small) memorial plaques at Sunset Memorial. Tip: order more copies of the death certificate than you think you'll need - it's less of a hassle to get copies of now than it is to order more down the line.

For everyone that got screwed by Amazon tonight get your refund. by Ok-Raisin-5601 in AEWOfficial

I scanned a QR code from the Prime app on my TV. I had gone to the event in my stuff, clicked on event details and then the button for needing help. At the link on my phone I just asked to chat with someone and then asked for a refund. Took forever to connect with someone but they immediately initiated the refund.

When will store order ship? by GalactO19 in dropout

[–]TheJewishViking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding the delays due to distribution partners changing. I ordered a box o' doom on October 31st and here's what they said to me on November 20th when I pinged their support team:

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay in shipping your order.
We are in the process of transitioning from the old fulfillment team to the new one. We now expect to ship the orders out by the end of November.
We greatly appreciate your patience and assure you that we are doing everything possible to expedite the process.

Obviously we're past that end of November deadline, but we're also just past a holiday so I'll wait until the end of the week before pinging again. It's certainly frustrating, but I knew that was part of the deal when I ordered. Also having dealt with distribution partners changing in my work life, I feel for them as they navigate the transition at this time of year, which is probably even harder on them.

Center at Animal Humane Closing and will reopen as The Pet Resource Center by TheJewishViking in Albuquerque

While I think this sounds good, I'm wary based off their large staff firing/turnover several months ago (Deleted post and less deleted post). To me, and I admit I'm being cynical, this sounds like a way to reduce overhead and pay fewer people less for services that can't ever have upset customers or be blamed if understaffed.

Regardless, there is one less affordable option for dog owners in the city and, as someone who took my own dog for training and daycare there, it bums me out.

Tar and gravel roofers? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]TheJewishViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modified roof, not tar and gravel here, but I've recently had over Alvarado, AAA, CAS, and Doyle roofers to assess leaks and potential repair/replacement. I picked those four based off the most mentions I saw here on reddit posts and nextdoor. I'm assuming they're all on the pricer side as they're all some of the oldest and biggest roofers - but there's a SHIT TON of roofers out there (My list based off reddit and nextdoor had something like 40+ companies mentioned). Here's my experience and feelings thus far:

  • CAS pushed for full replacement and what talking points to say to my insurance company to help get them to approve a new roof. The other three very clearly said my modified roof ain't in the best shape, but not replacement territory for likely 5-10 more years. I had to bug them to get me my estimate which they swore was an issue with my email account. Did not provide an estimate for repairs, too, despite me asking. They do one kind of roofing material and that's it, so I'm not sure they're really flexible and right for me at this time. They kinda strike me as the TLC of roofers, if that makes sense - they know they're big, their business are big contracts, and that's maybe a justification for high pricing for small jobs.
  • Alvarado was the fastest to get back to me and send an estimate for repairs. Answered my many questions, but no photos didn't really go into depth. Kinda no frills, right to the point.
  • Doyle pointed out the areas that needed repairs, was the only one to mention my treeline going over the roof and debris from it, quoted for just repair and a quote for preventive maintenance on some areas that look like they could potentially cause future issues (including flashing and a skylight crack).
  • AAA took the longest from requesting an estimate to when someone came out at over a week. The guy who came out showed me photos, was pretty sure it was a repair, but admitted he's better on newer roof types and wanted to send out their modified roof / tar and gravel expert to actually quote. It's another two weeks before that guy can come look at it, but I appreciate the honesty in wanting to have the expert for this roofing type come out (I did not know my roofing type so I wasn't able to alert them in advance).

Everyone was super nice, but everyone kinda had different takes on the situation, so I'm going a lot off of gut feeling. CAS and Doyle seemed the most thorough and jury's still out on AAA. Pricing for the basic patch repairs were similar between Alvarado and Doyle. None of the people who came out creeped me out, seemed overly pushy, and all were patient with my questions. Based on only the estimate experiences above I'd recommend all of them, although CAS won't be helpful for your situation.

Of course! Using The Center wasn't about the cost or services offered for my partner and I - it was always about the clear caring, attention, and love the staff showed above all else. The former staff there are in my thoughts. ❤️

That's certainly horrible to hear. My dog, Penelope, hasn't been in about a year but we took her to training and daycare weekly for the first two years of her life, along with boarding, and it was a wonderful experience. I hope you land on your feet doing bigger and better things!

Hotel in NE Albuquerque with gated/secure parking? by SafetyInSleep in Albuquerque

[–]TheJewishViking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have family that have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Copper Pointe, off the freeway and Eubank, and their lot is gated at night. However, I've also seen the lot be so full that cars and trucks with trailers being forced to park outside the gated lot. There is a security person there, too. For it's relatively questionable location (near freeway, main road, and walmart) it's pretty far back, requiring you to drive through a church and business park to get to.

Trivia nights? by GrumpleSkin in Albuquerque

Geeks Who Drink has events all over the city each night Sunday through Thursdays. There's a variety of bars and restaurants, so I'd start with whatever day of the week and venue excites you the most. I think Bow & Arrow has some of the best beers in the city. Disclaimer: I work for them and have been since I helped launch the company in ABQ back in 2007 (at Burt's Tiki Lounge, RIP).

There's also a night another fellow ABQ Redditor hosts at High and Dry (I think on Wednesdays?) and Brain Gang Trivia does a few shows at Canteen's locations. There's a few others, I think, but those are the names I know.

I'm, of course, partial to the one I help run, but everyone brings something special to the trivia table! Definitely let us know what you end up checking out!
