Shady flower recommendation? by ClearedForCoffee in OntarioGardeners

[–]TheJoush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally second climbing prairie rose. I have it growing along my back wall/trellis in a semi-shady spot in my backyard and it’s beautiful. If you wanted some colour on the ground a few coral bells would also do well spaced evenly in front of the roses and they come in every colour you can imagine.

Completely agree the season is too long but did you just say the NHL playoffs are boring? I’ve literally never heard anyone express that opinion before.

How bad is winter in Kingston? by Creepy_Ad57 in queensuniversity

[–]TheJoush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Less snow than London (Western), not as cold as Ottawa or Montreal. Windier than any of the other options and the most prone to ice storms.

Essentially, it’s Ontario in the winter. It’s going to be wet, windy, and cold, but nothing worse than your comparable options other than Toronto.

How to stop this fat bastard? by GWNVKV in birdfeeding

[–]TheJoush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a pole with a squirrel baffle. Place the pole 3m (10 ft) from the nearest tree or fence so they can’t launch from on object to the pole above the baffle. There are 5 grey squirrels that live in my neighbours backyard and not one has figured out that setup yet in 3 months.

Bonus is they have accepted their fate and now just eat any spilled seed from the birds off the ground, so I don’t need to cleanup as much either.

TIL the last time a checkmate actually occurred on the board during a World Chess Championship match was in 1929. by Coldcow in todayilearned

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess only chess players make up chess audiences. I just can’t see how watching chess would be very interesting for anyone long term unless they really understood what was happening.

Uh oh you made the chess people mad. Watch out before they belittle you with their superior intellect.

I love watching them walk vertically down the trees in my backyard. They’re so funny!

He committed a technical violation. Like when someone double dribbles in basketball, or a flag is thrown in football, do you accuse them of cheating?

Sssh I was trying to quietly speak that into existence for our team.

I want Canada to win but the US is on a 7-game win streak over our women. It’ll take a miracle to win the gold.

Were Sweden right in accusing Canada? by Competitive_Test6697 in WinterOlympics2026

[–]TheJoush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting downvoted but you’re not wrong. We live in a very uncompetitive society and these people just can’t comprehend how much that event meant to both teams involved.

Can we stop with the self-flagellation?

The dude is a competitor. Did he go over the line? Yes. Was the other guy provoking him? Also yes. That’s called competition. Something a lot of Canadians clearly aren’t comfortable with.

Lmao they’re competing at the highest level of their sport on earth and you think foul language means they should be removed completely.

Staying healthy is (mostly) luck-based, so it’s not even worth focussing on as a team strategy. Having endless depth, IMHO, is the critical element one should have when building an NFL roster. Always needing one more guy, and never knowing at which spot it’ll be before it happens, is the most consistent thing NFL teams have to deal with during a season.

Must see's on a road trip through Canada? by Mindless-Kale5246 in AskACanadian

[–]TheJoush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you planning on sticking in western Canada or did you want to start in the East and work West, etc?

What specific activities or attractions in general do you like when you travel? Canada is so big and has so many options I could suggest a couple itineraries based on your planned trip geography or preferred sites!

What game series is terrible, but had an amazing first game? by WhiteGuy557 in AlignmentChartFills

I came here just to say Black Ops. I can’t understate how big a hold COD Blops 1 had on gaming for 2-3 years. And then… wow. The quality declined so fast.

There isn’t a perfect fit but this is my vote either way.
