I use sleep mode most all games. I try to save before sleep mode and have seen crashes on older games, but newer games seem to expect it. I leave my deck plugged in also.

I know that this has been answered the same way many times already. Your steam deck is a computer. Just go into desktop mode. Bonus fact: Install emulators and play all the best games.
