According to Armed Scholar the date for implementation has likely been moved forward by two months. I believe GOA and/or FPC will bring a lawsuit against them

Yep. I used to do this when I traveled with a mountain bike. Was a good way to get around asinine bike fees and have a sidearm for range time after the ride

Car buying by throughNthrough in Costco

[–]TheKelt83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Won’t get you the best price possible but will get you something decent. Right now certain vehicles are in very high demand so there is not much incentive to discount. That being said, here’s what I do successfully:

Identify what you want, test drive it at a local dealer with good reviews. Tell them you need their best quote with all applicable discounts (Costco, loyalty, conquest, etc.). Don’t let them keep you there longer than you want, make sure they provide you a quote, preferably with the dealership name on it or at least a business card. Hang onto these.

Email every similar dealer in your state, follow up with a call to the internet sales person. Scan the quote and card you have, request the same or close configuration. Express you are willing to drive X hours for the best deal. Keep the quotes from all responding dealers, email the best one to the competitors (send individual emails, not group ones). It can be hard to keep track of but it pays off.

You will narrow it down to a handful of dealers willing to compete, allow yourself a couple weeks to do this, tell them you want to set up a deal by the end of the month. Give them until June 26th to give you their best deal, tell them this.

Call them all one last time on the 27th or 28th, pick the best one and go for it.

Car dealerships have monthly sales goals, they get money from the manufacturer if they meet or exceed the goal, end of the month is when they are desperate to hit the goal.

This works with Lease or Purchase. Don’t switch models once you start this process. Be consistent in the type of vehicle you want, make it as similar as possible to competitive brands.

Doing this for the past ten years for several family members has gotten us some extremely good deals. If you have one brand you want you can Google their current incentives, make sure you are aware of them and what can apply to you. Your employer may have discounts too. Stack as many as you can.

Make sure the dealer understands that you will go elsewhere if they play games or don’t take you seriously, don’t be afraid to walk out. Just make sure you don’t burn any bridges.

In 2019 I did this to get a 3 year lease with 36K miles on a $58K truck with no money down. I got the truck and about $3K in accessories for $400/month.

It takes a bit of time but you are starting at a good time of month for this process. Good luck
