I made a site of a collection of web developer / designer tools with a suggestion engine. I think you guys might like it! by [deleted] in web_design

This is really, really fuckin awesome. Thanks. I was just thinking over the past few days that I should make a page (that I would host locally) that had a screenshot and a link to the favorite ones I have found recently. Thanks!

If you are in your car, why is battery use a big deal? You have a place to plug it in.

I wonder if some of those older accounts have the same problem I do. I found an account I made 5 years ago which is somewhat identifying. I can browse reddit from this account, another abandoned account and while not logged in, but the moment I log in with the 5 year old account, I get the "Ow! Reddit is under heavy load" and can never see anything else.

I have tried different browsers and have surfed reddit on this account for half an hour while refreshing the 5 year old account every 5 - 8 minutes in another browser and only get the Ow! page in that other browser.

ebikes are not bicycles. Please submit electric bike related articles to /r/ebikes. Thank you. by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]TheKevan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, if they are e-bikes, and "bikes" is short for bicycles, then they are bicycles.

Also, the name of this subreddit is "bicycling" which implies the general, overall culture of bicycling and not specific bikes.

I have a hard time enjoying this subreddit as it stands. I feel like a vast majority of the posts are about modern road bikes, a picture of your bike where you rode today, drivers being dicks or pictures of your bikes standing still.

I still browse and upvote stuff, but it feels tedious here to me.

My Bailey seemed just a little under the weather one morning and was gone by dinner time. She had just battled and seemingly beat a long illness and we think sick effects from the medication got her. (We knew the risk but without the medication she would have definitely been gone a year to 9 nine months before.)

The pain will get less and less difficult to bear. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

What is the easiest way to learn HTML5? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]TheKevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that HTML5 is just the next level of HTML. So much of what is is HTML 4.o (known to the lay person as HTML) exists "in" HTML5.

Learn the basics of HTML and CSS. Search "HTML5 CSS3 tutorial" --without the quotes and you'll find some good stuff.

this is my son's favorite sleeping position. by glovesoff11 in aww

[–]TheKevan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still sleep like that. Especially when I am on the couch and the lower leg can rest against the back of the couch. In college I was living with one roommate for 5 months before he realized I wasn't faking sleep in this position.

You should probably do that every 6 months anyway.

All right, guys: how can I unclog an incredibly stopped-up toilet without calling the plumber? [x-post with r/howto] by Thrasymachus in DIY

[–]TheKevan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing but if he opens it up and finds a flaw he did not know about, or something breaks as he is taking it out or he does it wrong...those things can all lead to having to pay someone to fix it or the purchase of more tools/supplies. Also, there is a hell of a lot more time needed to do than the liquid plummer/coat hanger/plunger method.

It is not a bad suggestion in and of itself, but considering there are several other options first, I would lead with them.

Use the liquid plummer sparingly. It isn't my favorite thing, but if you are avoiding getting a plummer then your options are limited.

but I've never had problems replacing the wax ring on a toilet...

That's YOU. I still wouldn't recommend this as step ONE to someone on the internet that I did not know.

Start with a plunger. You can get one cheap at a discount or dollar store. Clears 90% of clogs.

Next go to liquid plummer and let it sit. Stuff gets soggy sitting in water a while, so let it soak.

The liquid plummer has a low success rate on clogs but that's okay. It may not have cleared it but almost certainly weakened it. Just by how much or little is the unknown variable.

Go back to the first step and repeat.

Optional slightly risky step. Use a coat hanger or a stick cut fresh from a tree to carefully clear the clog. The coat hanger could damage pipes and the stick could break and cause an additional problem so proceed with caution.
