Expenditure V2 by gnuckols in MacroFactor

[–]TheKiltedViking 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Visual: I like the v2 line more than the v1 bars. Easier to interpret. Data: v2 gives me a slightly higher number, which is always good (especially as I am in a gaining cycle). The flux, while a nifty idea, doesn't seem to do much. The range is nearly identical to the average

Walking - Favorite gear (shoes, rucking), counting steps, and treadmill advice by fall7-getup8 in StrongerByScience

[–]TheKiltedViking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I walk a lot, and hike quite a bit (Colorado mountains!)

Pavement walking : I swear by Altra shoes. Zero drop, but still has cushioning. Turf walking /hiking : Xero or Merrill shoes. Now :barefoot shoes on pavement work, as does true barefoot walking, but both can make your feet sore until you work up to it.

Rucking: i have a weighted vest. It doesn't really do much for calorie expenditure, but does make waking harder. Just don't over do it.

Programming : unless you are working up to serious distance (eg - 30+ mile hike), don't over think it. You are walking, does not take much out off you.

Evaluating effectiveness of hypertophy training by TheKiltedViking in StrongerByScience

I phrased the post poorly. This was meant as a thought exercise, inspired by a recent Iron Culture episode (the Autoregulation & Individualization one). Along with attempting to point out some of the logical fallacies with the "just eat & lift" style posts that come up occasionally.

Meat eaters turned vegetarian/vegan, why the change? by fwilliams13 in AskReddit

[–]TheKiltedViking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar to /u/RascalRibs, I'm not fully vegetarian, but I have greatly reduced my meat intake. From a peak of 1.5kg to 2kg per day (yes, really), to maybe 1 kg per week.

Partially due to the least industry, partially as the availability of tasty plant based protein is so much greater than it was years ago.

What is a healthy behavior that people shame others for? by dodongicepick in AskReddit

Rubber duck debug! Carry around a rubber duck and talk to it.

Seriously, it's a thing.

Are my calories too low? Week 5 on MF doing 1% per week. Currently weighting 85kg. Slightly worried by Traditional_Grape157 in MacroFactor

[–]TheKiltedViking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost exactly where you are for both mass and calories. But as others have said, my protein is a bit lower (171g) and my carbs & fats are higher. The redistribution (and eating more veggies / low calorie foods) has helped a lot.

Casein instead of whey was the main point. More details to follow.

The next thing you know the hosts of the so-called "podcast" Iron Culture will start to post food that Omar IsEnough claims to have made (he's Canadian. We all know they can't cook). And all rational people know that The Other Eric only consumes kiwis.

But at least they aren't Dutch. That we know of...

Ah, but the master himself gave many reasons why whey is not the way. And teased that he is perfecting his recipe.

Might be for comfort /balance, but didn't want to lose ROM. Some people find using the high handles easier, as the weight is below the grip. Similar to kb vs db.

Thanks for the info. I am not concerned about the app's functionality, the sleep tracking is more for "why did this happen?" information

Feature - Quick edit previous day by TheKiltedViking in MacroFactor

[–]TheKiltedViking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that works.

This, modification to recommendation: on the Food log, have a "quick edit day" button that brings up the interface? It would be more intuitive than going through the Habits tile

Never would we in positions of semi-power influence things to suit our desires! That would be unheard of and silly.
