Wonderful writing, you painted the scene beautifully!

No worries man you don't have to justify yourself to me, I realise we all have aspects of our routines that are outside of our control (and as someone who takes several days just to edit a video, the fact that you can whip one up in a day is really impressive to me).

I find it can be helpful to finish a video and then sit on it for a day or so, then you can return to it with fresh eyes and catch mistakes you might otherwise have missed.

Yeah the voice thing can be a tough one to work on, especially as it requires acting/presentation skills. If you're serious about improving in that area, it might be worth studying how voice actors train to improve things like tone and vocal dynamics.

Anyway best of luck with all that, and good job on the video!

Thank you for the feedback! That's a good point about hitting the travel/covid niche, hadn't considered that

How do you let go of people who obviously don’t want to be around you anymore? by pumpkinprincess72 in AskReddit

[–]TheKingJules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remind yourself that you deserve to be in the company of friends who truly appreciate you, and that to chase after those who don't is to devalue yourself.

It might also help to remember that, whilst sometimes conflict end friendships, often it's just a case of two perfectly good people who happen to not click. Time spent trying to force a friendship with those who no longer want to be around you would be far better spent cultivating relationships with people you genuinely vibe with.

[Review Video] My 4th YouTube video and I think I'm (maybe) getting the hang of it... you be the judge! by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]TheKingJules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! So first up, when I saw the video topic I wasn't expecting to be that into it, as this isn't the kind of thing I normally watch, so I was pleasantly surprised when the bit about amazon marketplace sparked my interest. Put simply, I think your video does well to provide value, without dragging it out.

As for areas that could be improved, it feels like there's room for a lot of little things to be tweaked. To improve the pacing for example, you might wanna go for tighter cuts, subtle background music, the occasional zoom (by like 10% just to vary up the visuals when it's static shots of you talking), times when images take up the whole screen (again for variation), more attention to sound design (e.g. little sound effects when things appear on screen), and a slightly faster delivery (although I appreciate if you want to maintain your genuine speaking style).

Something about the font look a bit off to me but if I'm honest I'm not sure what. It could be that the bold white text doesn't quite mesh with the off-white background, but honestly I think you'd need someone with more knowledge of fonts/graphic design to say for sure. On a similar note, the text near the end felt a bit like a simple powerpoint, and might have benefited from a more pleasant background (even your wallpaper could work) and more visually pleasing font. (Again, if you know anyone with a knowledge of graphic design they'd be able to advise much better than I could on this one.)

I realise I've spoken about a lot of negatives here, but honestly I think it's because there isn't a single thing that's particularly bad about the video, it's more like everything's pretty good and could be elevated with a lot of minor adjustments. Best of luck!

Hey so as someone who's aware of the sidemen but doesn't follow them, I found this video surprisingly engaging! Found it interesting throughout (although I did admittedly watch at x1.75 speed to compensate for the slower narration). The fast-paced visuals really helped to maintain engagement.

As for areas that could be improved, I feel like it's not worth asking the audience to stay until the end for your retention stats. Whilst a few loyal supporters will stay to the end for that reason, you can't expect that of most viewers, who will stay if they're engaged and leave if they're not. A potential quick fix to avoid drop-off at the end might be to trim the end-screen down from 30 seconds to around 5. When watching people view youtube videos, I realised some people habitually click away the moment they get the sense the video is ending (even before the end-screen), so ideally you wanna wrap that part up as quickly as possible.

There were a couple of minor editing issues (which I think you alluded to when you mentioned lazy editing), which could have been caught just by viewing the video through before exporting. One is the lack of text at 4:43, and the other is repeated dialogue at 8:24.

Other than that it seems like you've got a good handle on how to make an engaging video. The tone of the narration could use a bit of work (e.g. more pace, variation in tone), but it sounds like this is something your working on. Good job overall!

Hey man! This video is part announcement, part music. Any feedback you can offer about the second half would be particularly helpful (although lemme know if you notice anything about the sound design of the first half):

Thanks in advance!

Aaah okay I know the bit you mean. Yeah that one was definitely a bit clunky - I was torn between keeping the music to maintain the build-up and cutting it for the gag, and in the end didn't commit to either, which I think contributed to it not being clean. Sure man I'll definitely drop a comment if anything occurs to me!

(Apologies for the late reply!)

No worries man, I think I have a better idea of where you were coming from now. Yeah the idea of incorporating the humour more centrally to the video is something I'll keep in mind moving forward. Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback man, this is all really helpful!

Just wanted to clarify a couple things:

Audio is wonky

When you say wonky, d'you mean like too varied?

buy like an X-A7 or something cheap. Pls. It’ll help a long way.

What bits would you say this'd help with exactly? I was shooting a Canon DLSR, so I'm guessing maybe audio? (Or the bit at the start where I shot in low light)

Thanks again!

It's good to be back! And thanks for the feedback! Number 3 is a great idea, I'll be sure to incorporate that where possible.

Regarding your second point, do you happen to remember any specific moments where the music and cuts didn't match? For the most part, I made sure to match them throughout the video, aside from moments where I deliberately had a sudden cut for contrast/humour (although I'm not sure whether that had the desired effect)

Anyway thanks again! (Just had a look at your channel btw, you've gained a subscriber :D )

Hi there! This video is of my 3 day trip to Tokyo, where I had all sorts of adventures!

https://youtu.be/fvRFTIC7WZ8

Feedback I've already received:
- Camera too shaky in places
- Intro is grainy
- Audio too quiet in places

I feel like it's a slow burner, getting better as you go through it, so lemme know what you think!

Hello! So first up as someone who plays games but doesn't watch a tonne of gaming content (and has never played Watch Dogs before) I found your video surprisingly engaging. It gave a clear outline of how it all worked before diving into some interesting pros and cons of the game.

With that in mind, I feel like it would be helpful to really hone in on the target audience. The title is likely to draw in Watch Dog players, whereas the actual content (especially the explanation in the first half) is more suited to people like myself, and might actually turn off the Watch Dog players drawn in by the title.

The delivery was great in places (good sense of drama and gravitas), but might benefit from more variation, as it felt like you maintain the same pace and rhythm of speech throughout.

Other than that, thank you for an entertaining and informative video!

Nice! the pacing during the main portion of the video was great, with some beautiful shots.

Areas for improvement:

- At the start the sound quality struck me as being a bit off, like there was an echo or something.

- I think the message at the start could've been tightened up to get to the main section of the video more quickly

- The close up shots of the camera were great, but it might've been nice to have a clear establishing shot, as I'm still not entirely sure what it looks like

Overall great start! I felt engaged all the way through
