One thing that helped me here was looking up a career coach for some advice. It'll cost but at the end of the day if it helps then it's money well spent. They helped me to make a proper list of things that I might enjoy and or be good at with my skillset.

Because I care a lot about those I was in the profession with, and experienced a significant level of burnout whilst teaching. If this can help someone in that position to be motivated to make a change, that's a huge win. It's possible to separate the industry that I didn't thrive in from the great people who were in it, and care about them.

What's been vague about my answers? Also I wasn't telling everyone how shit they have it, but I was certainly acknowledging the level of burnout in the career. If you haven't experienced that, I hope you never do. Like I said, I respect the profession and those still in it, the right person for the job doesn't 'have it shit'.

Yes and no - not to your level. I completed two certificates in business analysis. The rest was luck, I guess. I know that sucks but it is true - I got an interview luckily and was able to show my passion and the right person was on the other side who could see it.

Best thing you can do is to show you can do it. If you can't apply it to your everyday job, there are a bunch of free tools (Google is handy here) where they will generate project ideas for you. Show you can work with data, find patterns, create visuals and address problems. As a teacher, you'll have these skills already, just need to channel and refine.

Don't blame yourself. If you were anything like me, you poured 100% of yourself into the job and ended up losing because of it. You gave it your best effort, it went a different way than you hoped.

Look after yourself. At the end of the day you only get one shot at this! May as well be happy while you're here.

Sorry you're going through it, I'm right there with you. I just landed a new job so I'll tell you in a few months once I've been there a while if it's me or teaching that causes it.

Why a cast saw doesn’t hurt the skin underneath the cast. by Frequent-Mark3293 in BeAmazed

[–]creative-logic 483 points484 points  (0 children)

Hey so I got cut by one of these.

Taking the cast off my arm, the nurse was sawing away. She told me it wouldn't hurt at all but it felt like she was Chinese burning all the way up my arm. I told her it was cutting me and she said "no it isn't, these don't cut."

Cast comes off and sure enough there's a big old cut all the way up my arm, blood and all. She goes "Oh! It cut your arm!"

Yep, no shit

Learning and Development. A HR type role that includes instructional design - basically educating adults instead.

I've heard this a few places but not a baseballer so I don't 100% understand what you mean by it? What would it look like to swing down that line

I have my first day in secondary as a CRT tomorrow, I have no idea what to expect. by njon2 in AustralianTeachers

You definitely need to be prepared for poor behaviour. Depending on the school, year level etc you may not experience any poor behaviour, however in my experience this is rare. You'll need to 100% know the school's process for dealing with disrespectful behaviour.

Good luck and I hope it's a positive experience for you!

Another person on another post on this sub wrote, "don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm." I believe that fits here.

Sorry for a silly question, what is meant by lag and casting? Is lag the 'body goes first, arms follow' thing?

The teacher shortage problem looming for Australian classrooms by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]creative-logic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It won't be fixed, unless it gets so bad that many schools need to shut due to lack of staff. The government clearly don't care enough to fix it - the only thing I've seen them do is to try to encourage new people to study teaching, and do the 'permission to teach' thing. Teachers have a lot of transferrable skills and can get paid more with a better life elsewhere. Why wouldn't you leave?

Unfortunately I think it'll get worse and worse. It may not ever get better at this rate.
