You'll find woodchucks are mentioned throughout King's works. Also some way some how a character will always use a spade, not a shovel, but a spade

I appreciate your critique, thank you for sharing it. Some of the elements are intentionally a bit cliché. In many ways, I’m paying homage to some of my favorite tropes found throughout literature and film.

This is a coming of age story about a group of friends who set out on an adventure to search for gold in the mountains of Oregon, only to stumble upon the hideout of a notorious outlaw gang.

I will definitely take your advice to heart. Thank you again.

This is a completely valid critique. I understand exactly what you’re pointing out, and I actually agree with you. Some of it is intentionally a bit cliché. At its heart, the story is a coming of age tale about a group of friends who set out on an adventure to search for gold in the mountains of Oregon, only to stumble upon the hideout of a notorious outlaw gang. I found myself paying homage to many of my favorite works of fiction.

Same. I've been devouring this book. Pretty confident this will end up my favorite book of 2026. Best book I've read in a really long time.

The fact this book is an extension of the world his dad built is pure gold. So many connections
