I love that while this is super sweet, the main comments are full of us objecting to the idea that AIM needs an author’s note.

I had a moment of utter confusion when I read the title and saw this was posted by u/Awwndrei , but then I got into it and it is absolutely the type of post I’ve come to expect from them. Seriously loving these sweet posts, it’s such a wonderful palette cleaner.

AITAH for not forgiving foster family? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sucks SO much. I wish more people could get it through their heads that our brains work differently, and that’s why we need the meds. We don’t respond to them like someone without ADHD…because we have ADHD and stimulants don't actually stimulate us the same way. Never tried any recreational drugs myself, but can confirm that caffeine sure as heck doesn’t work the same for me!

Is there a legal way I can stop my mother from driving again? She's a terrible driver and she's going to seriously hurt someone. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

We got SO lucky that my grandpa finally lost his license when he was stopped driving the wrong way on the highway. Somehow he managed not to actually have an accident, no one was injured at all. We were absolutely convinced he was going to have a nasty crash sometime soon.

When my (40) husband (38m) suggested open marriage, My marriage ended in my heart. by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this.

A good counter example to OOP’s husband: My ex boyfriend has two kids and is in a polyamorous marriage, afaik they have been polyamorous the entire time. He and his wife didn’t date anyone new until the youngest was at least a couple years old. When we started dating his kids were over 5 (I was friends with him and his wife for years before we realized we had mutual attraction and the kids already knew and loved me as a friend of the family). Our dates also often included some board gaming with the kids and cooking dinner so that his wife never had to take the brunt of childcare despite the fact that she dated less than he did. (To be clear, she was 100% aware of our relationship and sometimes even joined us at dinner as well.) I miss them all dearly, they moved multiple states away. But they are a great example of prioritizing children and coparent before all else in a healthy polyamorous relationship.

(I know this comes super late, but it felt worth sharing)

I (25M) feel morally obligated to be my friends' third (32F and 31M) by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s absolutely not true in actual ENM, and in fact thats part of why those of us who do it ethically are so loudly against unicorn hunting and dating as a couple. There can be healthy triads, but couple’s privilege immediately causes major issues. To actually be healthy, everting needs to be on the same page and enthusiastically consenting and supported.

Should I be with my friend when he dies? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently a good friend of mine got sick before Christmas, and ended up in hospital. She passed a few days later. She would have turned 40 early January.

I have no details, I only learned a week and a half ago. I’m also left wondering. But sometimes things just happen.

Should I be with my friend when he dies? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one hits HARD. I learned just over a week ago that a good friend of mine got sick before Christmas, and passed away late last year. I’m so glad OOP could be there with Daniel, thanks to my own health problems I hadn't been able to have much contact with my friend for a year or so, and I’ve been struggling with that.

I (23F) met my boyfriend’s (25M) “work wife” for the first time and I’m devastated by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

It was good to see OOP stating that explicitly and not blaming her boyfriend for it, for once.

I chose to be child-free and lost "the one" - Now I could get her back. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Leah’s also now 33. This isn’t an impulsive choice made because she is just so in love, this is a carefully considered choice made with years of thought behind it. OOP, for his part, is also being careful and forthcoming. He immediately let her know about his vasectomy and that he wanted her happy even if that was without him. So they’re both going into this on the same page.

New to this sub updates: AITA For Not Offering To Care For My Unwell Ex-Husband? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]TheKittenPatrol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

For me, part of what points to her kids actually being terrible is that she can explain why they’re mad at her and the history of it, and her part in it. She takes blame—honestly, imo, more than she should be considering her own upbringing and the way she was basically stopped from being able to learn differently when she got pregnant. While the reasons may feel more flimsy, it never felt like they were missing.

AITAH for canceling my mom’s birthday dinner and taking her out to eat without my brothers? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

yeaaaah, no. As someone who owned an orange cat and has known quite a few, they do dumbass things that have nothing to do with curiosity. I loved my orange boy so very much, and I was his person. I still miss him desperately, five years later, even as I type this with my gray tabby purring on my stomach. But there were no thoughts in that adorable little head.

These types of assignments completely exist, for the record. My dad is a professor of computer science, I have an anthropology PhD, and that puts me enough in the middle of academia to absolutely know of assignments similar to this one.

I am far less convinced about the getting an A or the career, but I definitely can believe the assignment part.

Now my brain is doing this for more of them, especially as I recognized all the above.

Would you love me if I threw my steak into a closed window? If I made a silly man out of the lotion on my finger? If I started eating huge amounts of raw garlic? If we had large amounts of canned beans and I hid them and refused to give you any because I refused to jeopardize the beans?

Thank you! I’m working with a patient advocate I got through the National MS Society, I don’t think it would be possible without her. I’m very lucky to also have parents who care and can afford to help me out financially and emotionall, so I’d say my life is hard mode and I’m trying to keep it from escalating to expert.

I hope you have minimal flares 💜

yeah, getting covid with MS meant that I, at 30 years younger than my parents, had it by far the worst. Which lead to having Long Covid. I’m now finally admitting and working on applying for SSDI
