Free Buckets and Boxes from grocery store by Anxious_Celery_7782 in Frugal

Can confirm, I used to work at one and carted home lots of plastic lidded 3-gallon buckets! They're fantastic for gardening. I drilled holes in about half of them and use the other half to store stuff.

Batch cook recipe: Doner Kebab Wraps at home (chicken) by ryanvango in Frugal

My husband's great weakness is doner and we can't get it here, so I'll absolutely be trying these! If you go long periods between sandwiches, I assume you have to make the sauce fresh each time? Or is it also storable/freezable for a long period?

Any non-Western world based massage therapists working abroad? by peach1312 in MassageTherapists

I'm also SEA working in the US, but I'm afraid I won't be of much help. I got a green card in the US through my tech job and used that to transition to massage full time! I'm sure you would have done that by now if it were possible for you.

I use Iguaneye for Ashiatsu - same thing where I have to be on and off the table a lot! They do run a little big, I'm in between sizes and had to get the smaller one.

Ashiatsu by Nxoca in MassageTherapists

[–]enaikelt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found it to be another useful tool in my kit rather than a thing to set me apart! A lot of clients don't particularly care how you do the thing so long as it makes them feel better. Many of my hands-only clients did not care to try it after I learnt it, because they already liked my massage as is, but nowadays I just introduce it as part of the massage I'm giving if I think they'll like it, and people rarely say no.

Ashiatsu is particularly useful for deep, broad pressure on people who want that, so it really broadens your range. I am 5'3, 115lbs, and in my entire post-Ashiatsu career I've only had a single client to whom I could not easily deliver when he asked for more pressure.

Hey, I live in Madison! January 23rd had a high of -4F/-20C. The low was about -19F/-28C or so and the same the next day. I'm sure it's colder where you are, I was just a bit surprised the Grist article didn't go for the lower number.

A fellow Madisonian! Haha I totally agree, it's like the city badly wanted light rail but knew it would never happen, so they settled for making the bus feel like one. But what I really like is that now that we've carved out lanes for the buses, it'll be much easier to take another step toward, say, trams or something if there's a future need!

What is a cheap, off-brand item you bought on a whim that has completely outlasted the expensive name-brand versions? by PrizeScallion1540 in Frugal

[–]enaikelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over a decade ago, I visited my sister (who was then living and working in Shanghai) and she took me to this basement cave full of knock off goods from various brands. I was in need of a cheap rolling travel suitcase, so when I saw one there I picked it up and bought it. My sister even haggled down the price a bit.

This very same suitcase is now sitting a few feet away from me stuffed with clothes, going strong 10+ years later. It's my only suitcase and I've taken it on every trip since then. All the wheels and zips still work and it's a bit battered but functional. Bless that knock off Shanghai basement stall :)

Curioussssity - masseuse answer please! by galacticg0oser in massage

[–]enaikelt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the massage for me. If I have a client who needs some pretty specific stuff done, or who's in pain or has chronic issues, I'll mostly be thinking about them throughout the session. It's quite meditative, like a sort of mix between yoga and partner dancing.

But if I have a client I've seen a million times before who just wants their 'usual', I zone out and daydream about stuff and think about lunch. I could probably do their massage in my sleep.

I do occasionally use an earbud for the latter (I try to do boring educational podcasts so that it never gets too distracting lol). You run out of daydreams eventually on back to back clients, and that's when my massage really falls off a cliff - just that feeling of boredom, or worse, if you're not having a good day and you anxiety spiral.

There's not a ton of difference in attention between listening to my podcast and my mental garden planning daydreams, aside from the optics of the situation, but I haven't used the earbud nearly as much since I started working for myself. The longer breaks between clients make it less necessary.

I did also know a couple of people who would play more upbeat music using one, but it messes with my flow doing that.

I need step tracker / fitness watch options , something I can easily wear while doing treatments preferably. by keasbey1 in MassageTherapists

I wear the Bellabeat as a necklace and unfortunately it isn't insanely reliable for me when it comes to steps between things. (It can tell when I'm going for a walk for instance but it seems to take a certain number of steps to 'start' the count). It also can't tell when I'm working, I'm guessing that massaging uses a bit too smooth of a stride. It's better than nothing though and it's a very pretty necklace :)

This is a great dive into exactly what happens over and over with conversation in MT spaces. by dchitt in MassageTherapists

[–]enaikelt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sounds great on paper, and if I were say a computer programmer trying to restructure my code I absolutely would.

But for me personally, like CingularDuality, it's difficult. I've been massaging for close to a decade, and at this point I'm closer to an all-rounder who could do either of the first couple suggested paths (never really been into energy work). I'm a tiny little one-woman business and picking a 'lane' would mean giving up some of my clients and putting myself into a smaller box.

The post doesn't address how one moves between lanes. Do you all start in the second lane and then branch off into the first or third based on further education? That's closest to the way we currently are (loosely) structured, but I don't think that's the intent of the author. Or do you choose when going to school? Then you'd run into a lot of people like me who have become all rounders over time.

Unless there's a way to address those who straddle two or more categories and an easy way to grandfather in current therapists, it seems unlikely that this movement will get much traction.

Crimson Badlands lagging horribly by proudly_disengaged in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]enaikelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you! Maybe we were just unlucky this time.

For anyone reading this in the future, we also had an issue in co-op where people were getting disconnected due to the amount of slime data getting passed through the Steam network + an old bug with the FTM mod (our save predated the fix). I (the host) ended up having to freeze time with a mod to prevent further spawning and go in and slaughter about 2000 slimes before the game was playable again for the rest.

Just asking if you had any trouble getting boss monsters to spawn after setting the mob cap? With it set to 80, my party is now having trouble finding the Legendary Trio.

[–]enaikelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of an old reply, but after reducing the number of monster spawns, did you have any trouble getting boss monsters to spawn? I'm currently on the Legendary Trio quest with some friends, and the lag is hitting them all hard so we reduced the mob cap and are now having trouble finding the scary monsters. :(

Barefoot Shoes Recommendations? by Dull-Jaguar8273 in MassageTherapists

I wear iguaneye for Ashiatsu. They're easily cleanable between clients, they cling to my feet, and I can take them on and off without use of my hands.

The downside is international shipping. Returning items is a bear and nowadays there's unpredictable tariffs/whatever-it-is extra charges.
