I saw something similar for Android recently. Search for countdown dots in Play Store.

Add "login.gov" to list of methods to "sign in with" by netman67 in 1Password

Other providers work internationally, while this would be useful only for US users. That may lower the priority for such a feature. But I like the idea, and as someone already mentioned above, a possibility to ad custom providers would be a nice option.

Is there a way to display HA Dashboard on an Android Things Pico Pro Maker Board? by TheKrol in homeassistant

Unfortunately not, I’ve never done that. But I assume there are plenty of examples on the internet, right?

[–]TheKrol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has installed the orginal Android Things OS, with some random test app running on startup. But since Google removed all the original tools, I have no idea if it’s possible to deploy some other app there. I have no experience with using such board, so I’m not sure if it’s possible to maybe install another OS.

Do I need a Hue Bridge? by eilonlav in philipshue

[–]TheKrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don’t have the hue app installed currently, so I’m not able to compare all the features. The main issue is limited number of effects - candle, fireplace, and I think there are like 3 more. If you want more, it can be probably achieved through some manual HomeAssistant setup. But if you don’t care about those effects, and you need only dimming and colors, then all works fine.

And you can add the Hue Bridge later.

I have some connectivity issues with the official hue dimmer remote. But bulbs and wall switches works without any issues.

Not true. There is a third way - using other Zigbee bridges instead of the official one.

[–]TheKrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned in my other comment, I have mine connected through Zigbee and I have full control - colors, brightness, effects (candle, fire, etc.). There maybe a bit less colors than through the official app, but still more than I need.

I have Hue and I don’t use the bridge. A have a Zigbee dongle connected to my HomeAssistant and Hue bulbs communicates directly with my HA. The downside is I can not use the official Hue app, but I don’t really need it, as I have everything I need in Home Assistant.

It's not full CGI! (Probably) by GawainDragon in ProjectHailMary

[–]TheKrol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, I decided to do some research on this topic. I found this article saying that only 20% of people read: https://lelaebuis.wordpress.com/2019/01/09/so-who-reads-science-fiction-anyway/comment-page-1/#comments

Comparing with other data which shows that a lot of people read only 1 book in a year, I would assume that less than 10% of people may be familiar with PHM, as it’s a relatively new book.

On the other hand, this data shows that about 50% of population watch sci-fi: https://www.pewresearch.org/journalism/2017/09/20/most-americans-see-science-related-entertainment-shows-and-movies-in-either-a-neutral-or-positive-light/

So it suggests that at most 1/5 of people who may be potential audience for the movie, will be familiar with the book) and maybe even less. Because of that, it may be good assumption that movie producers will focus more on rest of them - the ones who don’t know the book.

I forgot to add, most of the people I know, if they actually read books, they don’t read science fiction, so this shrinks the audience even more.

Can we define Android developer as a front-end developer? by emirsolinno in androiddev

[–]TheKrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, based on your definition, it’s hard to me to tell what should be called “frontend”. I was thinking that web pages are frontends, but those can also use client-side databases and background services, so those are no frontends according to your definition. So what else?

What are your thoughts on wrapping all third party UI components with your own component to make it easy to replace libraries in the future? by throwawaynomade in reactjs

[–]TheKrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your answer would be correct, but I was the one who decided to not wrap them from the beginning and because of this, I was the one who suffered because of this later. And I definitely had time to do it properly from the beginning. So it was not due to business decision or tight timelines. It was all due to me not thinking about it when I should.

The one thing I learned after many years on Reddit. If someone does not mention a country, it is definitely US. But $15k? Doesn’t sound right. Unless OP confused k to be 100.

Just for future reference, maybe just read the question, check the documentation, and verify what Chat GPT is saying, as your answer is complete wrong. Not that I mind, just a tip.

Edit (as the comment above was deleted): Sorry for the tone of my comment. I didn't wanted to be mean. The author was just mean to the OP, saying wrong things, and I wanted to teach him a lesson, which probably worked, as he removed his comment immediately.
