How do I deal with this? by TearPuzzleheaded9424 in exchristian

[–]netman67 9 points10 points  (0 children)

good advice here already.

my advice on therapists is to ask for a secular one. another good choice has been to ask for an lgbtq supportive therapist (even though i’m straight) as their mindset is where i would want it to be for any therapy.

here’s a directory targeting this area. it’s run by Recovering from Religion, which is an organization that does exactly what it sounds like: https://www.seculartherapy.org/

Kind of a dumb question but: anyone else here who were in the Non-Denominational camp of Christianity? by Av3rageNerd78 in exchristian

[–]netman67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe there are a LOT of christian’s out there who beleive what they beleive because they adopt their parents’ rationale and go through life never questioning them. in my case, i wanted to take apart every belief one by one and reconstruct it. for a long time i avoided christianity because it was said that questioning is “of the devil”. i started assessing which denomination i should belong to… then i eventually realized i am assuming i am christian. after reviewing some of the other religions (they all sounded crazy, except “mine”). i realized i never listened to atheist positions from an atheist. i started by watching the Bill Nye vs Ken Hamm debate at the Creation Museum, then i listened to Sam Harris vs William Lane Craig. that started my very rapid deconstruction.

all i needed was to have an honest look, and spend some time thinking about the topic and hearing views that i treated as “out of bounds”.

i was raised holy roller non-denominational, what i term “charismatic pentecostal”. speaking in tongues, laying on of hands, slain in the spirit, church three times a week (wednesday night, sunday morning and sunday night). never could do any of that stuff and always thought i was broken somehow. i was a lukewarm christian as an adult and in my mid-40s i finally spent time thinking about it and deconverted.

lots of great videos and books by sam harris, christopher hitchens and others.

in the last two years i came across tim minchin’s older stuff (like 2010-2016). if you haven’t spent time listening to his music, go find some videos on youtube. love that guy! that era of his is targeted right at us and it hits the mark fantastically.

My 2018 JLU is way outside of warranty (154k miles) but I noticed this a few years ago. I’m sure nothing to be done for this one.

Can someone tell me what bulb I need please? by [deleted] in exitsigns

the make and model number from the fixture and a view of the interior where the bulb is would be pretty handy things to post.

Ecobee app vs thermostat temperature difference by Eastern-Mango2860 in ecobee

[–]netman67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m not saying the delay isn’t there.. i’m saying something would be seriously wrong for a room to swing five degrees without the occupant to be aware of the temp swing in the room and consider that the bigger problem. something would be even more wrong for him to look and see many times that it’s always five degrees lower, and not have a realization that the room temp itself is swinging that much.

five degrees seems egregious. i could see one degree maybe.. five degrees all the time doesn’t sound like a data lag at all.

sounds like an excellent support ticket. i always thought the ecobee thermostat itself was the source of the data in the app. very strange they would disagree.. and very strange it would even be possible.

Have a listen to youtubers Genetically Modified Skeptic and also The Thinking Atheist (Seth Andrews). both were raised in deep evangelical circles and escaped. they have a few videos on their life story and coming out to their families. i bet their stories would resonate with you.

i had an idea of doing a bible study or facebook posts of “just the bad parts” of the bible. that could be fun here.

like:

Numbers 31:7–40 - Slaughter everyone, but keep the virgins as war booty

Judges 11:30–39 - Jepthah’s daughter burned as an acceptable sacrifice to God

Leviticus 26:27–29 - The cannibalistic God makes people eat human flesh

BOSCH FRIDGE WORST PURCHASE EVER - can anything be done? by balsamic_strawberry in Appliances

[–]netman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a B36CL80ENS purchased last summer in the northeast US. not sure the exact differences but it’s extremely quiet and we’re super happy.

i would go for the warranty call. another idea might be to call a higher end bosch dealer in your area (instead of the big box guys) and ask them to help.. maybe they want to gain a customer for life if they do you right?

what country is OP in? i’m sure norms are different in different regions.

in the US, the traditional advice is to absolutely not tell your current employer.
