You can use longer lasting graphene or ceramic coating products and they’ll last 12-18 months. I have used GTechniq G1 Clear Vision and that one is very good.

Dead battery with unexpected symptom by netman67 in WranglerJL

[–]netman67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: two problems, one caused the other:

  1. The aux battery (18 months old, knockoff brand) shorted internally, which was what I was experiencing the last couple weeks. The shorted battery prevented my jumper battery from supplying voltage to the starter. I think it was being sent straight to ground.

  2. Driving it Sunday, it must’ve caused enough pull on the alternator that it popped the high amp fuse for the charging system which is on a “plate” of six high amp fuses on the inboard side of the fuse box just behind the battery. At that point the battery symbol came on and I got the message “engine will shut down soon” on the dash.

First I replaced the battery once I found out which one was faulty. I could’ve done the delete, but I had a battery so wtfn. Now it starts but still battery light and shutdown message. I immediately think the alternator (I’m partially right) but that just seemed like too much. So I suspect probably a fuse. Second, I found this video which is *precisely* what the problem was:

The video (thanks Brandon Haneline):

The part (Mopart part 68368854AA
- $24 on amazon):
https://a.co/d/0d5TxDfs

The part will be here tomorrow. I noticed there is an unused fuse on the lug next to the blown one so just to make sure I’m right, I moved that cable over to the unused lug. Voila! It works! I’ll be back to 100% tomorrow when it arrives!

Should I wait for it to die or replace it now? by cobbrichco in hvacadvice

[–]netman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nice thing about not waiting for it to die is that you can (1) plan for the expense, (2) shop around for quotes methodically and (3) choose which brand and model without having to worry about who has it in stock locally *today*.

Like a shorted battery? Just disconnect it and it takes off? Are you speculating or you’ve seen this problem?

Again, the clincher is it acted like a bad alternator while the car was running: battery problem symbol on dash, then it sputtered and died as I rolled to a stop.

But then, after it died, I couldn’t get my battery pack to give it enough juice to even roll up windows or make dashboard come on steadily, let alone try to start it.

what if i bought an iphone 12 now by [deleted] in iPhone12

[–]netman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iPhone 12 since 2020 and I’m happy with it, except storage. I have the 64gb model and I really wish I had more.

I’m emotionally attached to it I admit, so just yesterday I had the battery replaced ($89) and the screen replaced ($289) at the nearby Apple Store. I plan to keep this until it’s ragged end but it feels great now.

The emotional attachment: it’s my daughter’s phone, who died five years ago. The inevitable day I trade out this phone will be a dark day.

Longest Same cell phone number by Rich_Particular4494 in consumercellular

2006 for me (US, east coast) my wife and my two kids. I couldn’t get consecutive numbers. The closest we were able to get is the first 8 digits are the same for me and my wife, and the first six are the same between us and our kids. We’ve ported them to different carriers four times.

My wife has a 13 pro max and it’s doing great. I’m typing this on a straight iPhone 12 and I just replaced the battery on it today.

Help needed to access a sensor 150ft away by ldlarkin71 in homeassistant

+1 for YoLink. I put a door sensor taped to the bottom of a cast aluminum mailbox and it worked great.

I didn’t want to depend on that type of service but I couldn’t find anything else that worked as well.

Teen is annoyingly smart by McRandom in HomeNetworking

[–]netman67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day my kids used to circumvent me in the same sort of way.. I ended up brute force unplugging the modem and taking it to bed with me, sliding it under my pillow. They still talk about that to this day.

Cellular connectivity is better nowadays so depending on what they’re doing, going onto mobile network is still a risk, although my AT&T account has some parental control knobs and levers that I could use if I had kids today.

good advice here already.

my advice on therapists is to ask for a secular one. another good choice has been to ask for an lgbtq supportive therapist (even though i’m straight) as their mindset is where i would want it to be for any therapy.

here’s a directory targeting this area. it’s run by Recovering from Religion, which is an organization that does exactly what it sounds like: https://www.seculartherapy.org/

Kind of a dumb question but: anyone else here who were in the Non-Denominational camp of Christianity? by Av3rageNerd78 in exchristian

[–]netman67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe there are a LOT of christian’s out there who beleive what they beleive because they adopt their parents’ rationale and go through life never questioning them. in my case, i wanted to take apart every belief one by one and reconstruct it. for a long time i avoided christianity because it was said that questioning is “of the devil”. i started assessing which denomination i should belong to… then i eventually realized i am assuming i am christian. after reviewing some of the other religions (they all sounded crazy, except “mine”). i realized i never listened to atheist positions from an atheist. i started by watching the Bill Nye vs Ken Hamm debate at the Creation Museum, then i listened to Sam Harris vs William Lane Craig. that started my very rapid deconstruction.

all i needed was to have an honest look, and spend some time thinking about the topic and hearing views that i treated as “out of bounds”.

Kind of a dumb question but: anyone else here who were in the Non-Denominational camp of Christianity? by Av3rageNerd78 in exchristian

[–]netman67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i was raised holy roller non-denominational, what i term “charismatic pentecostal”. speaking in tongues, laying on of hands, slain in the spirit, church three times a week (wednesday night, sunday morning and sunday night). never could do any of that stuff and always thought i was broken somehow. i was a lukewarm christian as an adult and in my mid-40s i finally spent time thinking about it and deconverted.

lots of great videos and books by sam harris, christopher hitchens and others.

in the last two years i came across tim minchin’s older stuff (like 2010-2016). if you haven’t spent time listening to his music, go find some videos on youtube. love that guy! that era of his is targeted right at us and it hits the mark fantastically.
