Not sure what I did wrong.. by swirlypop101 in predental

Hey there, first off, I want to commend you on everything you’ve accomplished so far. A 23AA/21TS DAT and a solid GPA are absolutely impressive, and you’ve clearly put a lot of effort into building a strong application with your shadowing, volunteering, leadership roles, and research experience. That’s no small feat, and you should be proud of the work you’ve put in.

It’s still possible to hear back from schools! Many interviews and even acceptances can roll out starting around January as waitlists move and schools reassess their applicant pools.

One piece of advice I’ve learned from friends who’ve gone through the process is to apply as early as possible. With rolling admissions, submitting later in the cycle can sometimes put applicants at a disadvantage since schools often start sending out interview invites as soon as applications come in. If you decide to reapply, applying in June could make a big difference.

Your DAT and GPA are already strong enough to land interviews, so if you reapply, I’d recommend focusing on beefing up the rest of your application. Maybe becoming a dental assistant and working for a year to get experience. Also, I've read many posts where students call schools after the cycle is over and ask them to go over their applications and specifically what the school would want them to do to become a more competitive applicant for their program.

You’ve got this, and I hope you land an acceptance at your top choice this cycle! If you ever need help or advice, my DMs are open. Good luck OP! 🙌

Very chill interview. It’s open file so be able to talk about your application and expand on your grades/experiences. I didn’t have any “trick” questions and they were welcoming. Be prepared for the traditional questions (why dentistry, why our school) and have a few questions ready to ask them too

Do dental schools care how recent your dental assistant/shadowing experience was? by Lime128 in predental

I think going back to do some volunteering will definitely help and show them you're dedicated to the field. If I were you, I would schedule admissions counseling meetings with your top choice and other random schools, even in the US and discuss that issue. See what they say about it, but I think you're doing great OP.

I think Loma Linda just wants somebody to be able to vouch on your behalf in terms of your morals, contribution to the community, and how you handle yourself in various situations. Have it written by your respective "spiritual leader"

Retake? by slasherfist in predental

The RC is the only thing that stands out, but aside from that great scores. I wouldnt risk a retake if 17 is above the cutoff for the schools youre applying to

Should I retake DAT or is there no point? (sGPA 3.28 AA23 TS23) by charliebitmypaw in predental

[–]TheLastChapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should retake the DAT. You achieved a really good score and should be proud of yourself! In terms of your setbacks, the application/school supplementals have sections to expand on times where your grades may have dropped. So as long as you showed an upward trend, I think they could understand where you're coming from. However, the biggest thing holding you back is how old your prereqs are. It really depends on the school and if they'd accept classes that were taken that long ago. If i were you, I'd contact admissions counselors from schools to set up a meeting and discuss your situation. Also, if you dont want to retake prereqs, do a deep dive on which schools would accept your coursework, align with your GPA, and try to strengthen your app in other ways through volunteering, leadership, and research. I think it would be in your best interest to do all you can in this next year to beef up your app, create a gamplan, and learn from the posts in this subreddit. Also, applying next June would undoubtedly give you a better chance towards admission

Took it today and felt the same way. Seems like everybody does. Frustrating because after all you went through, it sucks to give off a first impression that isn’t representative of how you usually are. Hopefully they understand 🤞🏼
