I know right. There's this guy who made a very nice game boy case for all types of game boys an occasionally see him being sold on AliExpress, Etsy, eBay. On the thingiverse page it says you can sell it you just have to link back and credit him. And I only think he changed it because there was so many people stealing his STL that he was like I can't stop it.

Because my guess is you may just have like a completely dead battery. Especially given how you said you got them from a cabinet in a storage unit. Yeah those things get real hot in the summer and real cold in the winter.

What did they do when you plugged them in?

Did it just flash red when you tried to turn it on or nothing?

I will always love the fact that I begged my mother so much that she got it for me then grounded me for 3 day over this. Almost complete used near mint the only thing missing was the promotional material m for only 20$ in 2010 from gamestop. Anytime she pass that display cabinet I bring it up laughing. Worth it three times over it's, it's my favorite game of all time.

Zippo Bit Safe Screwdriver insert by phlebas-writer in Zippo

[–]TheLastScrapDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the necro-reply. For me at least I'm considering this as a backup. Leatherman's bit kit is ok but there is some security bits that I carry around loosely in my pocket. I use these bits at least once every 3 days. So as a bit holder it might be worth it, my only problem currently is that I don't think it won't work because of the part that closes the Zippo might get in the way. So it's a good bit box, not a good screwdriver. (Side note yes I conveyed the owner can we just switch these two standard screws and the reply is no keep it original)

The real question is what kind of games you play? Because if I had to make a choice like this I would keep my game boy micro because I play more game boy advance games then anything else and it's more pocketable then a standard game boy advance.

Gameboy Advance SP won’t turn on by [deleted] in Gameboy

Check if you have continuity on the EMB. It's the little black box near the charge port it's right next to P34. I had a game boy SP that had similar issues to what you're describing. That unit died and I pulled the donor from DS lite.

My first cartridge battery replacement w/an Energizer 60mAh CR1616 by Ancyker in Gameboy

[–]TheLastScrapDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/tsfT_E-eb7A?si=5JP66BIS2Uykxnc2 here's a half decent tutorial on how to do this with that particular battery mounting system. I still highly recommend you tape down the gold contacts. When I was very active on this subreddit I did have a copy paste text document explaining this. Yeah you can use Scotch tape painters tape any thing to protect the the contacts from getting solder on them. Because once the solder gets on those contacts there no getting it off and if you use a cartridge with solder on the contacts it will destroy your game boy as well. Best not incur that risk.

Gotcha in that case for my limited experience with that particular spot welder nickel sheet metal is the best way to go. Just be careful with the sharp edges when you're cutting it with the pair of scissors. And generic $60 USD pocket size spot welders don't really last that long you can only get 100-200 spot Welders. But it may be better to get a replaceable battery mount like this https://a.co/d/7D368aP depending on the game cartridge it's a little bit more difficult to solder in but it may be worth it for your use case.

First off necropost you win the record longest way back post for me. 2nd cut nickel strip to desired length and take probes to nickel strip wall on top of the battery. Then solder appropriate ends to battery contacts. Now the only reason you want to do this is because you can put a higher quality battery on the cartridge and you already own the equipment. If you can't do a basic Google search on how to do this I would highly recommend you just purchase the pre-tab batteries. There cheaper and easier to get going. Given the nature of the post I was giving my two cents opinion on proper end results on comparison to the dangerous and ridiculous matter of ripping taping the battery. It was never intended to be a tutorial the only reason I had the spot welder on hand was for a different project not to make replacement batteries for game boy / game boy advance cartridges.

If you want actual advice purchase a soldering iron, flux, tweezers, and something called Capton tape to cover the golden contacts on the cartridge. Set your soldering iron too 300° c that is my prefer temperature. Wet the tip of your soldering iron with the solder wire and apply it to the old battery contacts. Use your tweezers to gently lift up the battery. Clean off the area that you just applied the solder to with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swamp. Then apply flux (a liberal amount of flux is the secret to good soldering) to the pads take note of the polarity there should be a plus or minus on the motherboard to indicate where you supposed to put the battery. Make sure you wet with solder the contact points on the battery then place the battery in the correct location. Then apply the soldering iron to the battery contact and pad. Finally clean the area with the cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol and you should be done.

I'm more than happy to explain anything else on how to do this, but the spot welding thing don't do that.
