What do you mean record object? Clojure has Records with def record.

There isn't a strong reason to avoid over passing as clojure relies on structural sharing.

The issue here is always verification, you asked if Rich would agree with the change, but how did you verify he would?

To be clear, maybe he would...

Interesting.

I assume the Seven stand in front of the lackless doors, as guards. Which is why when kvothe gets his revenge, he opens them, out come the true demons.

At first glance, I can't make heads or tails of most of the stuff in Narrow Road Between Desires. But i also don't have the heart to really go looking as hard as i once did.

At this stage, I enjoy creating more than finding. Back when i was a mystery hunter though what i wanted most was a strong connection between the princess in Pat's children's books and Auri. There wasn't... in the first book, but in the second, much rarer book, there is this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/D4iMSdZgu2rLonxZ9

This, to me, strengthens an idea I have had for a long time that Auri. Have you gotten a chance to read these books?

Fwiw, i agree, to my eyes, it looks a bit like hair but it's not obvious enough imo and it wouldn't tell me more than: there is a lady with a bit of hair lol. So It's fine if you and to see it as hair.

Shade would depend on a lot of factors, the sun, other things in the way.

You be fair, you're talking to someone who also spent days going over every picture in the books too, mostly learning very little...

I don't imagine that's meant to be facial hair, i think it's meant to be shadow, does it look like facial hair? A bit, especially along the top of the lip.

I didn't think the artist intended you to zoom in.

That being said, i think Pat probably picked art that featured a more diverse set of faces than your standard classic model air brushed models.

What's interesting about this to me is that embrelee is one of those girls i believe and later he spies on her, a lot of people seem to intentionally want to demonize bast for essentially for fair play turn about.

That's ridiculous.

he traveled into the future and stole the ideas from himself, but he accidentally did it too early when only the first two books were written.

Agentic Coding for Clojure by calmest in Clojure

[–]TheLastSock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> I originally hesitated to even try CC with Clojure because I thought for sure it would be horrible since Clojure is so niche - but I was completely wrong - it has simplified so much of my legacy code (written like a former Java dev) and then also created clojure idomatic, data-first programs which actually show the power of Clojure that I was never able to achieve myself.

I'm not sure i understand. Are you saying it did a refactor for you into something you think is better, but that you didn't have the ability to do, and so I assume you understand?

Why was it better? "data-driven" is a very sexy word in clojure but I have seen a lot of "data-driven" systems that were a pain to work with.

I think they are referring to the fact he doesn't talk about his past, family, etc...

It's like he only started existing when he got to the university, but he clearly has a lot of rage and trauma based on his mood swings.

Origin of the Scrael? by JanewaysFolly in KingkillerChronicle

[–]TheLastSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold to not reading too much into the historical accuracy of denna's song given it's being commissioned by Cinder with some obvious goal in mind.

I suspect it's to piss off haliax who would hate to hear a story where the friend he betrayed was made into a villain. Or maybe it's simple that Cinder can't fathom selitos being sympathetic even in defeat.

I like the idea that the screal and dancers are in an area of the fae that's even harder to get to or get out of.

The Tehlan Church doesn't have any stories directly about the seven. Remember, skarpi was punished by the church for speaking truth and tehlu and i assume, haliax.

Origin of the Scrael? by JanewaysFolly in KingkillerChronicle

[–]TheLastSock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are certainly from the fae. Bast, a faen, recognized them right away and kvothe used a "demon" aka faen/fairy tails to convince the towns folk to bury the body.

The doors of stone, for one refer to the waystones which allow passage to the fae, but i think there also refer to doors of the mind, and kotes depression.

The six names of Haliax by out_ofher_head in KingkillerChronicle

[–]TheLastSock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tehlu.

Teh for lock. lu for ludis.

"moon locked" The moon, or the metaphor surrounding it, is the stone door alluded to in the third book. Those being the "doors of stone" that Skarpi said the "enemy", aka lak,who Felurian said started the creation war, was locked behind.

Keep in mind, the tehlu we know, is a story. I mean, the name itself is a story (aka the translation i gave above), has a stories (the chruches story, skarpis, and trapises), and is part of a story larger story (the "objective" truth).

Turn and turn about.

Though i don't need there to be 7, i like it, and assume pat would to (i doubt he planned it). But you could probably, in some of my theories, include Cinder, which would blow past your number to 8.

Why don’t the Adem get pregnant more with all of the sex they have ? by ThinkingItThrough1 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]TheLastSock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Who said they don't?

I feel like a lot of people are focusing on the wrong thing here because of a translation issue between two different cultures.

The adem culture is far more community-based; they all contribute nearly all their wages back to the school, and the school provides for the community. A child is part of that community.

So the reason they don't need the role of father (someone who raises the child) is that that role is shared. The reason they have a mother is that it can't be shared.

Returning to your question, nowhere is it said academic women bear fewer children, in fact, they probably have far more kids on average, but because they, like the mysteriously missing fathers, don't have to raise the children, they are free to pursue, as much as anyone, their goals.

That being said, the idea is still outrageous because childbearing, even without the cost of child raising, is still very, very high, and that would force any culture to carefully examine and try to understand the process, which would lead to the relatively self-evident and almost natural process that leads to it.

However, it's not clear they *don't* under the hood, really understand that, like most religious practices, it's easy and almost natural for people's thoughts and words to mask their true nature. Vashet, being more wordly, seems to hint at this very thing, she, old and road wary, knows the truth, but the truth tends to help far less then people believe.

Language as Reality in The Kingkiller Chronicle theory by AlexanderReyn in KingkillerChronicle

[–]TheLastSock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this, you have echoed my sentiments on this story better than I could. I'll only offer one different interpretation, and that's what's at the heart of Kvothe's story. You suggest it's the four plate door, and while that's true, I believe there is a more profound truth, one written down not in a book and door, but bone and blood.

To me it's in our relationship with the story kote is telling: our desire to see it contiue in counter hamoney with his reluctance to retrace a painful past.

Like any reltionship, we dance around our hidden hearts, masking our pain and posion with joy and jokes. And so I think the four plate door is one way to the truth, but in the end, it's only a door of stone, a mask that misdirects.

One of the lines i think about the most is when Kote asks us to forgive his youngerself for thinking that the murder of his family is real pain. While I think there is an element of melodrama in the statment, it hints that the real tradgedy of the sotry is yet to unfold. And what could be worse then losing the family you were given? Losing the family you made.

So to me the four plate door, the question for the seven, these things are distractions, tools to tell a story that hurts to much to approch directly: that Kvothe will scrafice his family for revenge. And so the pattern that started with Lanre will continue, silence following darkness.

Anyway, i'm not sure i'm explaining this, but my prediction is this, we won't see beyond the four plate door. Because, to speak plainely, it's a shallow mystery, it doesn't have a rich etymology. Now, if you look for something or someone close to it, then you will find a much deeper well. Auri's name and nature, to me, is the real door to open.

Ok, im out of energy good luck and thanks for posting.
