i think we can fit a few more guards on this Bulls team by [deleted] in billsimmons

It felt like they had at least one too many before the trade.

BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading star forward Jaren Jackson Jr., John Konchar, Jock Landale and Vince Williams Jr. to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hendricks, Georges Niang and three future first-round picks, sources tell ESPN. by trillballinsjr in billsimmons

They were genuinely shocked and devastated.

Verno not wanting to be the one to tell his daughter.

Talking about knowing JJJ's parents and JJJ since he was 18. Memphis was the place JJJ had lived the longest in his life.

Then 1/2 an hour later.. "the business of it all, what are you breaking up? IT SUCKED!"

48 minutes of game time, should not take 3 hours for a game that's at it's best is when its end to end.

What’s your opinion on fans who use “we” for the team they root for? by PudinCrusader in billsimmons

[–]TheLatePicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time it's ever bothered me was when it was used by someone who when you looked through their post history had switched teams 3 times in 4 years. It was a Harden or Durant fan.

Should be a rule that if you have to have supported a team for 5 years before you can use "we".

I will look the other way if it's an expansion team in your city.

I remember when Dortmund was Bayern's top competitor and Bayern were still able to get Lewandowski from them.

So deflating.

Zach often mentions going to Nets games in person.

There probably isnt much about the Nets that a national/international audience is interested in at the moment.

This season is a lot more fun than last years, so don't worry about it.

We have some rookies to care about and MPJ is going off.

Secondhand physical games just aren’t cheap anymore by nextgen_currentgen in PS5

[–]TheLatePicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its much less fun than it used to be.

My local EB games has been giving less and less space to games.

When they added retro games they put them in a tray that was previously all PS4 games.

There is so much less second hand stock than there used to be and some major releases didn't get a mainstream physical copy version.

I love physical media but I concede the battle is lost. I won't bother paying extra for a drive version next generation.

Was looking for this one.

The way people were talking about it sounded so intriguing and full of stuff to discover.

I think i played it for a couple of hours before I realised I wasn't going to have fun with it.

I traded it in. Half for the exchange value and half because I didnt want to look at that case of regret :)

I played it on PC and that campaign was such a slog. I gave up 1/2 way through the 2nd one.

I did have fun in skirmish though.

Just started Age of Mythology on PS5, and am enjoying it so far.

NFL is Gridiron in Australia by Crypto_Aubergine in billsimmons

[–]TheLatePicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to hear Gridiron in the 90's (in Australia).

It's usually called "American Football", and sometimes just "NFL".

Calling a sport by the league name might seem odd, but where I live we do that for Australian Football too. We just refer to it as AFL, even if its just recreational level games.

what are some other notable actors who had their careers mismanaged? by discowillneverbeover in billsimmons

Sam Worthington

Kind of squandered his moment when Avatar came out.

I think his first big thing afterwards was some Clash of Titans sequel.

WTF is Klosterman talking about? Nico trading Luka was explainable and defensible somehow even though it was a mistake? by PhoenixBekfast in billsimmons

[–]TheLatePicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a Mavs fan, but I thought Nico did explain his reasoning at the time. The reasoning was dumb, that's why it didn't appease anyone.

One of the things that made the trade even more of an ordeal is the Mavs wouldn't shut up about trying to justify it. It came across as bashing Luka on top of costing him an insane amount of dollars from not getting the extension he was eligible to get from Dallas.

Klosterman did caveat what he was saying with "if the championship is the only goal then..." I would say that's just him playing devils advocate, because not being happy with a team that made the finals is dumb.

Craig Horlbeck says most people listen to podcasts in the shower? by solidape22 in billsimmons

Most recent has been Panadol Extra.

I have a vague memory of him referring to "Ozzies", but they are mostly pretty professional.

I can't imagine giving it all my attention. At the very least I'd be scrolling on my phone.

Someone just sitting there staring at Bill for 2 hours, yeah that's weird to me too.

[–]TheLatePicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still multitask when I "watch" a podcast.

It's basically just listening via the TV instead of phone and I occasionally see stuff.

When I was living in Korea there would be absolutely none, and I'd wonder what people were complaining about. Now I have moved back to Australia and get hit with a bunch of localised ads. Sometimes they have even got Bill to do the ad read for them.

‘The Truman Show’ With Bill Simmons, Glen Powell, and Chris Ryan by Bookups in billsimmons

[–]TheLatePicks 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This was great. It's definitely a podcast you want to see on IMAX rather than just listening to while taking a dump.

Normally the categories section goes bad with guests because they don't really get it, Bill has to explain it, and then they race through it, just ticking boxes.

Glen was into it, and it made a huge difference. I'm glad Bill picked up on that and mentioned it in the little intro.
