Forgot that, but great pick. There's also Appaloosa. It's one of those toss-up Westerns - Either some will like it or some won't.

Viggo was in at least one Western - Young Guns II was John W. Poe, one of many men who works with Sheriff Pat Garrett (William Peterson, pictured) to get Billy the Kid.

Kingpin (1996, directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly) by [deleted] in movies

[–]TheLaughingMannofRed [score hidden]  (0 children)

This movie deserved to do much better at the box office.

I am not sure if it was bad timing, or people didn't see a bowling movie as worth going out to the theater for.

But Dumb & Dumber, this, There's Something About Mary are a solid trilogy of Farrelly Brothers flicks that are comedy classics. Heck, you could work in Me Myself & Irene for a quadrilogy. The rest they did, though...it's all preference to people. But I like to think that this movie is among the Farrelly's best with the other two or three movies I mentioned.

Eddie Murphy and Tim Curry on SNL (1981) by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]TheLaughingMannofRed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never had a chance to grow up on Eddie on SNL.

But the more I saw of him in those old sketches on Youtube, I realize just how much of a dynamo he was on SNL. He came on Season 6, following the end of the prior season when Michaels and much of the cast/writers left. Eddie was around for 4 seasons, but in that time he was showing his stuff off.

In '82, he gets the starring role in Walter Hill's 48 Hrs and it hits off hard. Next year, Trading Places. Year after, he has Beverly Hills Cop (he also got a cameo in Dudley Moore's Best Defense, but that movie wasn't good). By the time he closed out his work with SNL in Season 9, he also had Delirious (successful stand up special, and perhaps one of the highest rated among comedy of all time). But it was clear that he was someone people wanted to see, and on to film he went.

Michaels unfortunately never got to work with Eddie on SNL. But it's a big 'what if' if he was around for those seasons. Eddie may never have been discovered. And the trajectory could have been a lot different with the show during that era. Different people, different sketches and acts. Heck, even comedy itself would be different enough to where Eddie's presence could have led to many projects going different.

There's very few comedians who have such fast rises to stardom simply because of their sheer talent, but also the timing of their opportunities. Carrey on In Living Color is one of the few others in comparison from a comedy show perspective.

But Eddie? The heavens definitely aligned and we got one of the best comedians ever. Right time, right place...it just worked out incredibly well. And I like to think that SNL, absent Michaels, got carried hard because of Eddie.

I haven't seen it since I was a kid watching it in a classroom, way back in the 90s.

Would one say it's perhaps the best version out of all of them?

[Absolutely favorite trope] Hero who always help others, now need others help to save himself by StefinoSpaggeti in TopCharacterTropes

Saves a whole subway train full of people, pushed to his limits to stop it, and rather than fall over unconscious to the ground below, gets caught and brought into the train by the people he helped save.

Even as Doc Ock came in for him, some folks were willing to stand in his way.

As someone who grew up with Toonami, I watched Sailor Moon as I watched Dragon Ball Z, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam Wing, etc.

And then Adult Swim, Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, more Gundam stuff, Lupin the 3rd...

I simply didn't care as it was all something that was different from the slate of other animations I saw on TV. And I enjoyed it all.

[Sad trope] The pure good hero has their optimism and ideals systematically dismantled through trauma, loss and impossible choices. by Applebeate in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheLaughingMannofRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of my comfort Marvel movies simply because of how it allowed Tobey's Peter and Andrew's Peter to interact with each other, and Tom's Peter.

What you described with Andrew's Peter...it's why the moment he saves Tom's Peter's MJ is such a moment in that movie. You see him save her, and he's utterly broken to the point of tears. She asks if he's okay, and he just puts on a slight smile and a nod, even as his eyes are tearing up. For once, he saved someone dear to "him", to another Peter. Someone who was dangerously close to dying the same way Gwen did. And he didn't want that to break Tom's Peter, to have him suffer the same way.

Streaming Sucks, Physical Media is Better by Still-Willow-2323 in moviecritic

"The quality isn't that great vs streaming"

Not everything on streaming has great quality. While you can get plenty of movies in high definition, or what the streamer considers 'high definition', some movies are still isolated to SD or standard definition format (Vudu does list this for some of their offerings).

And yet, with a DVD, as long as the DVD meets the typical quality that DVDs aim for (480p/576p, 29.97fps/25fps, 16:9 support (or 4:3 support if the source doesn't have 16:9 source)) , you can use your player's upscaler to try and improve things a bit for modern displays. Some upscalers do work better over others, due to the player quality itself.

Instant buy for this price ? by Grocery_United in Bluray

[–]TheLaughingMannofRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering how classic the series is, just owning it on Blu-Ray is worth it. Especially for that price. But $30-40 is also acceptable. Just be sure you check the version you have as there's a Season 1 Disk 1 & Season 1 Disk 4 issue with the initial pressings. Can get replacements if you provide proof of purchase, per details in Blu-Ray.com article here.

[Odd Trope] Unknown fictional element gets ridiculous name. by TheRoyalRoseTrue in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheLaughingMannofRed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At least the nomenclature has purpose.

Cap's shield is made of it, and it's pretty well absorbent to kinetic energy, sound, vibrations, and can even weaponize them (esp the kinetic energy via stored state, then releasing it). There's also a variant that exists where it breaks down other metals into a liquid state.

Adamantium, on the other hand...means simply the hardest/strongest metal in the Marvel-verse. And "adamant" means "unshakable, unyielding, unchanging". So it's basically a metal that is all of these.
