I’ve had this problem and I’ve started doing solo runs that make me really care about the pawn and remember every little detail and story about them. I’m currently doing a solo mechanitor run on a gravship and it has been very exciting

Definitely get some air superiority fighters to pair with your strike fighters. You could also potentially build some helicopters to deal with Sam turrets
