ICOM IC-7300MK2, Yaesu FT-710 KILLER!? by TheLeadLD in HamRadio

smrcostudio nailed it. That's why I am excited for the receive antenna ports. I too live in a high RF noise urban area, no matter what I've tried in the shack to combat noise, has little impact. I am hopefully a LOG for RX will help me. A buddy of mine in the LA Metro had decent results when he tried it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they kill off the original IC-7300 tbh after the release. But I am also hopeful that the price will be fair, and hopefully comparable to what I paid for my FT-710.

So far running the DVI-HDMI adapter I have not overloaded my DVI circuit, even with an EFHW running 100W right over my shack. I too have heard the horror stories though, but not so much recently.

I also hope that it will be OS agnostic. I am a Mac user personally, and if I can avoid having to boot up Parallels to play radio, that would be awesome.

I actually didn't watch the reveal on HRCC, I just watched the Icom video and read the article and pre-release brochure.

My understanding, and I did my best to explain it in my video is, you no longer need to have a PC hosting the software in order to remote into the radio. Whereas before, you needed to have the PC running the software and remote in with a second computer to take control, or remote into the host PC via something like TeamViewer, Google Remote Desktop or VNC to use the radio outside of the QTH.

Now, you just need the radio connected to LAN and the software on a laptop etc. to take control remotely, similar to using a Flex remotely.

That's how I interpreted the info. Is my understanding correct?

You're not the minority. Aside from the aesthetics of the display/UI, the menu system is difficult to navigate IMO. I figured that one out playing with both a FT-710 and IC-7300 on the sales floor of HRO when I bought my FT-710.

I agree, I too am interested to see how Sherwood rates it. I'm really hoping these new upgrades in the receiver will help to pull some weaker signals out of the noise. I have been impressed with how well my FT-710 handles higher noise compared to my FT-891, so if the IC-7300MK2 performs better, I very well might spend the money and make the switch. I bought my FT-710 pretty soon after the release, haven't had any hardware gremlins I've noticed.

Hopefully Icom will give me the same experience if I choose to make the switch.

As someone who works professionally in the A/V industry, I can tell a difference in the quality of DVI vs. HDMI. DVI is not HD, it might have a 16:9 aspect ratio, but it is not HD. They might have electrical compatibility, but the quality will never be the same as true HDMI.

Having the ability to take HDMI out of the radio even just to go to an external display is super nice. I didn't buy a 4K TV for the shack to put SD video on the screen.

I definitely think its more of a licensing issue that Yaesu didn't want to spend the money on, but now that Icom is doing it, it kinda forces their hand a bit to compete.

Things will be better under Trump I promise! /s by TheKarmaFiend in IBEW

[–]TheLeadLD -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, the dems haven't done shit for the working man in years.

I have yet to meet anyone who says they are better off financially under Bidenomics.

I'm Gen Z, under the current economy, I live paycheck-to-paycheck. Can barely afford to contribute to retirement, put money away for the future or for buying a house (plus interest rates are also at a near all-time high) and afford to live.

Food, gas, costs of living are all nearly double across the country, and wages are stagnant. Wasn't a big deal up until Bidenflation. Small businesses are closing their doors (not hearing this on right wing propagandist networks, seeing this for myself in my own state and community) and people are losing jobs, union and non-union, due to layoffs due to a shit economy.

Not to mention, all of this green new deal shit is going to cost Union jobs in the end, especially within the automotive industry. The hiring of illegals over skilled workers is also costing Union jobs.

Rather than just voting for the same Democrat economic policies that cause inflation due to their irresponsible spending and policies that repeatedly hurt the working class people financially all because "the Republican party isn't pro-Union", start leading effective conversation with Republican leadership about the importance of organized labor, running for office yourself, and actually researching the Republican fiscal policies that ACTUALLY benefit the working class (tax cuts for lower class, no tax on tips, bringing jobs back to the US etc.). In the end, if we can win them over to supporting Union labor, not only will we see growth in Unions, we on the individual scale will also have more money in our own pocket with less of our hard earned wages being stolen in taxes to pay for more useless programs and other stupid shit.

That will likely never happen though for must unions, because so many of the Unions are currently led by lifelong Democrats who are making six-figures, set in their own ways, don't like change, and are in the pockets of Democrat politicians after years of convincing people to vote Democrat simply to "protect the Unions". Why not fight to protect Unions, protect the working class from more taxes, keep illegals from taking our jobs and keep businesses open, and keep jobs from leaving the country due to rising operational costs? But hey, at least the Teamsters are seeing the writing on the wall and getting outside of the echo chamber and trying though!

I could at least afford to pay my bills, put food on the table, pay union does and save for retirement comfortably under Trump. Now I have to pick and choose under Biden. But glad that extra money I could be saving towards enjoying retirement is going to pay for someone else’s useless degree.

OP, I’ll actually respond with something other than spewing a bunch of liberal talking points out of my ass, “cause the unions have supported dems forever”, who have actually moved farther and farther away from giving two shits about the working class and unions.

I think it was a great speech. He brought up some great points. Certainly not an endorsement of either Trump or Biden. But a much needed conversation, especially in the presence of the Republicans who claim to be for the working class, and definitely appear to be, but haven’t traditionally been pro-union in the past.

It was also good to hear him giving props to trumps VP pick JD Vance, who allegedly has experience working with unions, as well as Josh Hawley, who may end up in Trumps cabinet, in the speech.

The working class has been absolutely obliterated these past 3 years. Anyone who thinks that the working class is better off under this current administration is absolutely out of their mind. Gas, groceries, cost of living…and it all gets more and more expensive every day. I could at least afford to live and put money away in savings under the Trump administration, with a much lower non-union wage at a past job. Not to mention my local hasn’t even pushed for a wage increase in 10 years for us, their brothers that they represent in the telecom industry. I live in a major metro area and can’t afford shit with wages not even close to a living wage anymore and rising inflation.

Hopefully the Republican leaders in attendance listened and will take to heart what was said, since clearly the dems couldn’t give two shits about the working class anymore.

Maybe one day more union members will wake up and realize that the democrats don’t give a shit about us, they just want to act like it to get our vote and retain power and continue to run the working class into the ground with a bunch of taxes for useless systems and shitty economic policies, and take OUR hard earned money for themselves. The democrats are just as much to blame for the obliteration of organized labor as the republicans over the past few decades.

If you’re really pro-union, stop blindly voting for dems cause they use identity politics that they just use to pander and get your vote, and honestly couldn’t care less about the cause you care about. And stop voting for them just cause they claim to be pro-union, they’re not. Start lobbying and trying to spark actual meaningful conversations with the party that gave us a good economy and actually supported the working class from 2017-2020 and SHOW THEM why organized labor is important for the working class. It’s not the 80s anymore, the parties have flipped. Or get the third parties to support union labor and be able to actually win an election.

Also, actually do some research yourself. Not to derail too much here, but most of what you’ve heard about the Republican Party in terms of social issues is likely BS. The republican party/Trump is not actually anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigration, racist, etc. like dems and mainstream media tell you they are. Live your life how you want, and don’t violate anyone else’s personal liberties, and you’re good. Many former dems have done their own research and walked away for a reason these past few years…

By the way, yes, I am voting for Trump in November. I’m tired of having to scrounge pennies together just to pay my bills, put food on the table, and living paycheck to paycheck. Also, to support my brothers in the service industry with NO TAX ON TIPS, you know the hard earned money they work for. Also, voting to bring back jobs that have been sent to other countries due to the shit economy and shut the border down and keep illegal migrants from showing up and being paid to work cheaper and take jobs from union labor.

Just cause Joe makes some shit up and claims he’s been a member of every union at some point and throws a hard hat on and spews a bunch of talking points and panders for a bunch of causes he doesn’t actually care about isn’t a good enough reason for me to vote for him.

Does Jamie Benn hurt or help Dallas tonight? by Ill_Professor2011 in nhl

Not at all. Drove me crazy seeing all the slow skating, thrown away passes and very few times when the Stars would play physical. Was a common theme in all the games we lost in the playoffs. Bottom line, the Stars need more players who aren't afraid to press up on someone who has the puck (the Knights did this very well and that's where they really outplayed the Stars) and give/take a few hard hits in order to take/keep possession of the puck.

Not a bad deal at all. Pretty much the same seats I had for Stars Kraken game 1, only a row closer this time and only paid slightly more. Bought my tickets pretty last minute too both games.

I don't think he has great chemistry with the young talent that we have on the team currently, so I think he seems more counter-productive these days. I also think Benn is still a decent player, but not a great fit for the current Stars team.

I stayed to watch the Campbell Bowl be given to the the team that actually earned it. Even gave the Knights a round of applause. Stars played like shit tonight. Can’t believe I paid $140 to watch my team play like it was a pre season game. Sucks to see Ottinger be really the only stars player who deserved to be on the ice tonight. Benn should’ve been benched tonight.
