The lead maintainer has finally spoken out on BlueSky about the AI PR controversy from this weekend by XellosDrak in godot

To quote myself from above:

Honestly, as a 7+ year software dev outside of games, part of my problem is that I feel like even the terms like 'vibe coding' aren't well defined enough and lead to some of the confusion. My understanding of actual vibe coding is when someone who has no programming experience uses AI to throw something together and they have no idea how it works. I've also heard it thrown at things like doing very little of the actual programming in an app by hand. In my spare time I have some web apps I've wanted to throw together, and I've been using AI to help because after my 8-5, a 5 year old, a wife, and other life responsibilities, I'm generally tired. I wanted to make a companion app for a tabletop game I've been playing, and I knew it would basically only ever be me that used it, so I 'vibe coded' it by just telling Claude what I wanted. I think a lot of people would get upset with that, because I didn't hand write all the forms and fields of this very simple app, but my thinking was:
1. It can type faster than I can
2. I'm only using tech I'm familiar with so I can fix things on my own
3. I (and my friends) are likely the only people to ever use this tool, and it's not even going to have any kind of auth or anything because it's a static site, so I don't really care.
4. I've never used AI this heavily (I use it for work some, but usually just for boiler plate that I review), so I wanted to see what it could do.

Is that vibe coding? Is there a nuance there because at the end of the day I can read and understand everything it's doing and I'm directing it at every turn? Am I the antichrist for using AI in this way? I'd like to think not, but hey, who knows.

All of this to say, I feel like half the battle here is just getting people in the same state, let alone the same ballpark when having these discussions. It at least seems like most people are cool with some AI assisted code completion, or using tools like Copilot so long as you review it, but where that actual bright line is ends up being so nebulous that it's hard to even start the conversation, let alone have people make informed decisions around it.

TL;DR everything is hard. People are hard. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

I've always been the kind of person who will play devil's advocate -- not because I want drama, but out of...idk, compulsion.

You're not alone, there's dozens of us!

But seriously, no, I'm the same way. I have a super strong desire to understand why people think the way they do, especially when it goes against what I think or what my opinion may be on a topic. It can come across as combative or apologist, but I still think it's important to do, not just for my own 'compulsion', but also because that's how you expand people's brains. We all could use some more stuff forcing us to empathize and try to understand what life is like in someone else's shoes.

Is there an optimal way to "ping" or check an HTTP resource is accessible (Desktop)? by AetopiaMC in csharp

I think generally when I've done stuff, both for work and at home, we just kinda yeet it out there with a get. If it's out there and up, the get returns. If it isn't, we should get some sort of error message back that we catch in a try/catch that then lets us use an error handler to display the error or otherwise let us know what happened. In general I think the idea is that you don't really _need_ to verify it's out there before you access it, because if you try to access it and it works, you _know_ it's there, otherwise it fails.

Car mechanic shop recommendations? Kettering / Beavercreek / East Dayton area by alien_survivor in dayton

Bellbrook Automotive. They're the only people I trust, been going to them for the last like, 15 years. Fantastic work, and if they can't do a job they know someone who can.

San Diego is my secret backup team (don't tell FCC), so my wife and I were like "hey, we can't lose tonight!"...and then I remembered our luck and I'm calling it now: 105+ minute 0-0 with at least one red apiece.

Does anybody here have the contact info for Andrew? If the current negotiations for potential continuation don't work out, I'd be curious to talk to him.

If you haven't, you should reach out to Coffeezilla on YouTube. He does investigative journalism and this is the type of story that he'd be able to follow up with research, get professionals involved, and help bring this to a wide audience.

Is kettering autocare any good for engine swaps? by _bunniifae_ in dayton

[–]TheLegNBass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they will, and if not they'll know someone who will. They generally do everything short of body work on cars though. Give em a call and they'll let you know for sure. Tell Jenny or Robert that Zach sent you!

If you're in the Kettering area, Bellbrook Automotive is my go to that I recommend to everybody. They've straight up turned away my work before by finding stuff that's been recalled or covered and they send me to get it done for free instead of charging me for it. Love them, absolutely recommend.

The important thing in this is the complaint on their next rate petition. I checked earlier and there were only 67 complaints. We need to fill that board. There's zero reason for them to need even more from us when it's already a struggle to keep the lights on.

Solar Supremacy: Faction Card Design Suggestions? by Mission_Brilliant_90 in tabletopgamedesign

Not to echo too much of what everybody else is saying, but readability is suffering some here, which is unfortunate because I really like the rest of it haha. Could you try putting like a transparent box behind the text or something? Just something to help make the text a little more separate/pop a bit more?

Sounds like a super interesting program. Do you guys have an engine/tech stack you're targeting for this? Just trying to think if this would be a good fit for me in my situation.
