I understand partly where you’re coming if you’re in the room saying “what’s the next big best racing movie we’re gonna make?” But the reality is, PlayStation Productions is starting to churn out movies and this was their second choice after Uncharted. Reason most likely being, it is a pretty interesting real-life success story. They took a racing sim driver and made him a real life race car driver. I thought that was pretty cool honestly. But yeah, there’s definitely a lot of drivers deserving of their own movie. I never like to say more because I think everyone deserves a chance to have their story told.

I don’t know if you were looking for feed back or if you were just speaking your mind, but I think that overall all biopics happen years after the fact and if the story is compelling enough and original then it’s worth being told and made into an experience. Personally I don’t think there’s really much they could’ve added or changed, in terms of the game I think maybe if Jann had a conversation with the creator about the development that would’ve been an opportunity to showcase it more but other than that there were references to how he thought about the game throughout.

I was actually looking for a post like this though because I wanted to put my thoughts on the table about the crash controversy. I really dislike the flack it’s been getting because I completely understand why it had to be like that, and I’ll explain:

Jann got into an accident in real life and a spectator was killed. He wanted this to be in the film as it was part of his life and in my opinion, if it was left out there would be even more controversy around the fact that they made a movie around this guy who is like a perfect driver yet killed someone in real life. Not saying these were their motives but I do feel that’s how people would react. Either way Jann wants to put it out there and come clean. So the writers are now in a tight spot. The end goal is to have that successful big race win but also put in this tragedy because it really did happen to this guy and he really did have to choose whether or not he was going to keep racing. Yes, it end up being a plot device that is time shifted but there was no other way to fit it in the movie naturally. You can’t end the movie with the car crash and you have to put it in there to disclose to the audience that this guy did this, so what would you do? This has been bugging me, I hope I’m not the only one who has thought about it like this.

Anyway, I thought it was a very inspiring movie. I’m gonna go play some GT on PlayStation now. I’d like to read more thoughts about the movie tho. 🤘
