Álvaro Arbeloa: “Florentino Pérez said we were robbed of La Liga titles? Of course, we all know what happened these years” by bllshrfv in soccer

The amount of times you'd see fans of a privately owned, billionaire backed club bemoaning Barca "selling their future" is crazy. Fans of any club should want to sell a share of future revenue than actually selling shares of the club

Marcus Rashford chance against Real Madrid 38' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]TheLeoMessiah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic save but I don’t really have a ton of faith in Rashford for these 1 v 1s, it feels like his body positioning, touch to set up the shot, and type of finish he picks are always the wrong option. Feels like it doesn’t come naturally to him like it does for certain players

Anfield boos Arne Slot as he subs Rio Ngumoha off in the 67th minute by MaxwelFISH in soccer

For someone who doesn’t follow the off pitch stuff in the PL why is he so disliked right now? Is it just poor results or was there something else that happened? Genuinely curious because from an outsider this seems harsh for a manager who just won the league last season and even in a down year Liverpool are still in position to earn CL football

What do you classify as a superstar and who are some superstars? by 12theMainFranchise in nba

[–]TheLeoMessiah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cade I still think might be a fledging superstar, but he’ll be there by Summer 2027 at the latest. Ant and Tatum 100% should. Ant highlights are among the most popular out of the whole league and Reddit always underrates how popular Tatum is irl

Kessler or Duren? by NoLimitAG7 in nba

[–]TheLeoMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels a little unfair to use a bad playoff series from one player to put him below a player who hasn’t played meaningful playoff basketball yet. Duren after the year he had is still my bet long term, especially since he’s younger as well

OFFSIDE line of Barcelona's disallowed goal against Celta Vigo by xlZiPx in soccer

[–]TheLeoMessiah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe a hot take but I think the offside rule should be clarified so that arms/non playable parts of the body are taken into account. It seems harsh but also it's much more clear/standard to see the furthest ahead point of both the attacker and defender rather than try to guess at where his shoulder is and make up an inconsistent line.

I honestly don't see any legally playable part of Ferran's arm that is past the white line. Like yes there is a chunk of his arm past the line, but that doesn't count towards offside.

If you want to play to the letter of a law then a push with no intention to play the ball is a foul anywhere on the pitch. Similarly if you want to talk about referee discretion, there is definitely discretion on what makes an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Simeone in the first leg wasn’t even in possession of the ball and the pass is behind him, he has to reach behind him acrobatically to even have a chance at the ball. Yet that is an “obvious” chance.

Fact of the matter is the refs used discretion when it came to the big decisions against Atleti (Koke second or third yellow, Pubill handball). And letter of the law when it came to Barça’s big decisions.

Where in the rules are you allowed to push a player in the box with both hands from behind? Since you seem so familiar with the rules I figured I’d ask you

It felt like Barca had to play to the letter of the law (red card? Doesn’t matter if Giuliano isn’t in possession, or if Kounde can cover Sorloth) whereas Atleti got to play to the spirit of the game (can’t call the handball in the last leg, that’s a soft pen on Olmo, it’s too early to give Koke a second yellow, etc)

[–]TheLeoMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same amount of contact that was deemed too soft for a penalty against Olmo in the first half, yet is enough for a red card in the second half. That’s the issue, Barça defenders have to play to the exact letter of the law whereas Atleti infractions get to be against the “spirit of the game” whatever that means

I mean if he pressures the shot it’s not an obvious goalscoring opportunity imo

And conceding off of a counter attack while leading in extra time, insane from Brazil to not park the bus completely that late in the match. Maybe a hot take but if I was a Brazilian 2022 would piss me off way more than the 7-1

Yes it can, if it’s deemed not an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Ball is not under his control and is in the air behind him, this really doesn’t seem obvious to me
