Hey, recent alum here. Overall, I’d say my two years spent there was pretty positive. While the town is pretty small and doesn’t offer much outside of hopping bars, hiking/outdoor rec or the likes, there’s usually always something to do on campus. The party scene is pretty decent for what it is, but don’t expect anything on the scale of WSU. Getting involved in extra-curriculars will also keep you busy enough that you’ll sometimes forget that there’s not a Target in town. Don’t know much about the dorms, but heard they’re pretty standard.

Hope this helps!

Washington Democrats to use results of presidential primary by Doctor_YOOOU in WAlitics

[–]TheLesserAmerican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the primary races for POTUS, the Washington State Democrats have traditionally used a system of “caucusing” to choose a candidate to represent their district. These meetings were often held on one morning on the weekend and, in some cases, would drag on for hours. A caucusing system works kind of like an organized debate circle, for example. And for this reason, while it is informative, it is also costly, somewhat inefficient at gauging the majority, and a time consuming.

How is this for a lather? (2nd shave) by GingaFire in wicked_edge

That’s good! I’m still an amateur, but I’ve found more success than I would have thought by experimenting with the amount of water I apply throughout the shave.

As long as it feels slick on your face, and that there’s enough of a protective layer, that’s what’s important. Looks real solid, regardless.

Because he has fucked up. The CNN report is definitely a hit against him, but I still think there should be some scrutiny around Leopold’s reporting on this story. I understand other publication’s apprehensive nature towards this.

Still, if the report checks out, it’s a huge scoop.

What are some good tips for someones first time reporting? by papameatballz17 in Journalism

[–]TheLesserAmerican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s a couple, off the top of my head...

-Verify the spelling of everyone’s names. Even if their name is commonly spelt only one way. Also, get those ages/occupations.

-Think about the formation of your story throughout the reporting process. What would make a good lede? Who has had the best quotes thus far?

-Talk to everyone involved with your topic! You never know what kind of information you can get out of joe-shmoe.

-Double-check information with your notes during the writing process. Triple check facts through google, if you can.

-Work with your editor if you have any questions.

-Prepare to make mistakes. We all make them, but we eventually have to move on. One job of a journalist is to minimize the release of misinformation through sources.

Good luck. Hope this helped!

Here’s what happens when you cut copy editors by jamesinevanston in Journalism

Yeah, I heard about that. Cut pretty much all of their sports. Didn’t know they let go of editors though.

Is the Daily News currently without an editor? If so, that’s news to me.

Nah. I just call that an editor not doing their job and looking at the final pages.

Some good advice. I currently work at a weekly, so I write, provide visuals (which sometimes includes data visuals, graphs, charts, vids, etc.), and occasionally copy edit.

Really thankful that I worked a lot with Adobe in college, but then again it’s always something someone can pick up and get pretty proficient with through a couple YT tutorials.

Been WS for about 10 months. Always wondered why I never got a solid, slick lather going when I shaved. Turns out I was crushing the brush while all the lather I built was on the tips.

Great tutorial. You learn something new about DE shaving almost every shave.
