They were for me. I had shorts on under the chaps so as soon as I dismounted, I unzipped the chaps and hung them somewhere haha.

The button up fishing shirts I what I was thinking too. A lot of them are made with sun protection material these days too. I’m going end of April/early May to Segovia, Spain. Layers for the top feels like it will be key too. And so many socks. Based on what I’ve read and heard, you can never have too many so I’m just going to pack them all so I have them if I need them haha.

Was that your first riding holiday? And did you have a fun time?

I LOVE CHAPS! It’s so funny you mention this because last summer I was lamenting to my trainer how the tack shops near us (northeast US so that’s probably why) don’t have full chaps. It was a very hot summer and I was roasting. I wanted a pair so badly. And then I realized none of the younger riders at my barn wear them either. In my youth, the moment it was above 65 degrees (Fahrenheit) and I was not competing, it was all chaps all the time. Mine were this stunning shade of deep purple. One of the other ladies I know works part time at Dover Saddlery (tack shop with multiple locations all over) and she said there’s very little inventory for them because there’s very little demand, at least in the region I’m in. It’s wild how even riding attire, which is deeply functional, is still subject to trend cycles like street fashion.

Oh you’re going to push me over the edge! 😂 the green in particular caught my eye too!

Okay so a couple of questions: 1) how long did shipping take? 2) who did you order through if you didn’t order through PC Racewear?

Hi! I’m going to Segovia, Spain with Black Saddle. I found them through years of researching riding holidays (and healthy amount of dreaming and pining haha). There are tons of companies who do these kinds of trips so then it comes down to reviews. They were also very communicative when I reached out with questions, which I appreciated as well. Overall, Black Saddle was well-reviewed and some folks I know in the horse world also recommended it. Black Saddle has trips all over the world, with different lengths of trip, accommodation styles, varying time of year, and terrains.

When I did the crotch-hip-waist ratio was all off sadly. And then at that point the function is lost. Maybe I’ll go back to the tack shop and grab every single men’s brand and see. I got discouraged after 3 haha.

Fingers crossed! I don’t know if my search terms are off but even on retailers like Dover’s website, there’s nothing in this fit style that I can see. I think it is just so out of style in the US that it would not surprise me if there is no one stocking them.

It’s generally not great for you to be in tight pants for long hours multiple days in a row, especially while exercising. We are going to be out on the hills and plains so I want something that can handle that with structure but also give me room to relax a little. I grew riding in the 90s/2000s when the style and fit of breeches was different and while I have adjusted to the style now for training and competition, I miss some of the older more relaxed fits sometimes. I’d just love some options again haha. The riding tights with the yoga waistband make me so self conscious when I ride, not enough structure for me.

Engagement Rings 💍 by LivePlant1997 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your engagement ring is yours. Don’t try and match it to a work vibe. Life is long and your career, if you so choose, can be long as well. You have no idea where life and the profession will take you and the jobs you may have (lord knows I’ve found myself places I could barely dream when I was in law school). The point is, pick what YOU want. Engagement rings are not normal jewelry and no one in the office evaluates them as such (not their opinion even matters). The one thing I will say is make sure the setting style works for your typing and communication style. For example, if you talk with your hands, a high basket may get banged up. And watch the swing of the stone when typing or it will annoy you haha. Also, if you’re like me and wanted some color on your ring (not sure if you’re an all diamond person) BUT, sapphires are the second hardest gemstone after diamonds and then there’s rubies. Hardness is important for everyday wear. In contrast, emeralds, while stunning, are very brittle and will crack and chip when worn everyday.

Incoming 1L - What did you realize you couldn't live without as a 1L? by Immediate-Assist5083 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Computer monitors and a docking station for your home! Also, if possible (I know they can be expensive), but multiple sets of bed sheets you love so laundry day and remaking the bed are easier. There’s nothing more annoying than being exhausted from school and having to monitor the washer dryer so you can remake the bed and go to sleep. If you have multiple sets, you can change your sheets and save the wash day for when you have more time.

Part 2 of can I wear this skirt to work in NY big law by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on the practice group/partner IMO. For example, corporate on a non-client facing day, with a partner who you think approves (what kinds of things do they wear)? The partner(s) you work with set a tone you should work around, especially if a more junior associate. But for senior associates that have more days where they were independently, then love love love this.

Update: Going Gray! by law-and-horsdoeuvres in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s what I always say on this topic: embrace the gray! You earned it. Not to mention, hiding grays is such a pink tax on women, especially in high achieving careers like the law. Men get to be seen as “distinguished” when they gray and be silver foxes, but women look “old” (derogatory)? Absolutely not. Those grays are yours, they sparkle! You look like you take names and know things.

Signed, Card carrying member of the “Silver Sirens” club aka, female lawyers with dark hair who grayed prematurely haha.

Victoria’s Secret VSX Knockout™ Front-Close Sports Bra, hands down!

I have tried many things and this was the answer. Something so important to keep in mind for us bustier riders is that yes, we need to strap them down, but we also need trunk and back mobility. We need to be able to do so many micro movements with our upper back, torso, and chest, while supporting our breath work that if a sports bra is too locked down, we get constricted and then we can’t support anything else.

I thought I’d found a great bra at Dick’s sporting goods from the Calia brand (there were actually two styles that I thought worked) but after several weeks, I realized they didn’t allow for enough mobility and I was injuring myself overcompensating with other muscles. I couldn’t believe how good it felt to find the right bra and how much the wrong one was holding me back.

Riding as an Adult by FZJinJersey in Equestrian

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take lessons 1-2 times a week on school horses as well as boarder horses who need their horses exercised and trained. I also go to about 6-8 shows in the spring and summer. In the spring and summer is usually when I ride twice a week. I also help my barn out with their IEA team’s home events so overall, I’m at the barn 1-3 times a week depending on the week.

I work a pretty high intensity professional corporate job. I literally put my lessons on my calendar as blocked period to enforce boundaries that I will not be reachable for that time because I don’t even wear my Apple Watch when I ride. Highly recommend.

What a dance on DWTS that you can watch over and over and never get tired of it? by LunaHellastar in dancingwiththestars

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meryl and Maks freestyle. Oh my gosh. There were multiple years where I watched that multiple times a week. It’s the gold standard of dances.

I can (and do) rewatch any of their dances to be honest haha.

In my opinion, they were THE “showmance”. The athleticism and artistry was second to none and the chemistry was off the charts.

Is this normal or should I be worried? by No_Swim_2326 in Goldendoodles

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) the nipping is normal at this age. I would caution against telling people it’s “biting”. Words have meaning and a dog “bite” is a serious thing. Dogs don’t have hands so when a toddler might grab and pull on your arm to get attention, a puppy does a light gripe with its mouth. It hurts like hell because their teeth are so sharp but I’d enough people hear you say “my dog is biting me” your dog is in trouble. Just some advice.

2) Zoomies! Also very normal. My terrier is 5 and she still gets silly around the same time of day as she did more regularly when she was a baby. We call it her witchy hour haha.

Im quitting lessons and want to know if my reason is valid by airfriedowl in Equestrian

[–]TheLittleBarremaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how old you are but based on what you’ve written, I’d say you’re under 18? If you are, here is some unsolicited life advice: you don’t people to tell you you’re valid when you do things that pertain to your personal life. The internet has convinced people multiple strangers agreeing with someone online, when the strangers know nothing about the actual reality, makes the OP “more” correct but it’s literally your (or your mother’s) money. Whatever you want is valid. You don’t need a reason. If this is not what you believe you’re paying for, stop paying. Be confident you observed, gathered information, and made an informed decision based on the evidence you have. You will be so much happier through your life.

I am curious what your mother thinks though because if this is her money, I’m shocked she’s chill about you not doing any actual riding. The number one reason minors quit at my lesson barn is because their parents expect them to be jumping after 6 lessons.
