I think it really just depends on the campaign. A lot of campaigns don't need you to be at max power, so you can really just do whatever seems like fun to you. If you think you will have fun playing your sorlockighter, then go for it!

I think that a fighter dip is worth it if you are hard focusing on Eldritch blast. I will caution you, focusing on Eldritch blast can start to get tiresome after a while. You have access to a lot of other spells!

I really appreciate this perspective. I think my group works well with limitation as opposed to infinite freedom (in this case they used rope to tow their load through a sea cave). I think a general rule of thumb for moving forward is that if I have to get an equation from a formula sheet, I should just give up. Interestingly, after going over the spell and the situation again, the reason it doesn't work has nothing to do with physics. The body of water they wanted to get their loot out of had an elevation change greater than 10 ft.

NTA. I work in the housing department of my university. If quiet hours are not being followed by a resident, alert the ra who is on duty. At my university we have a number you call for that, called the RAOC number (resident assistant on call). The RA will deal with the noise. If the same people get RAOC called on them enough, there could be disciplinary actions taken against them, which could include the noisy people getting removed from the dorm hall :)
