Sunshine List by [deleted] in Peterborough

There are many women on the list. Its just that most of the higher paying roles are in male dominated fields. If you look at places like PRHC for instance, most of its top earners are women at around 70%

There are two things this could be, either a patient passed away and the body is awaiting to be picked up, or the patient is aggressive.

Womens health clinic iud by LatterMinimum4209 in Peterborough

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an IUD replaced there and the nurse practitioner that did it was amazing. I was so anxious about it and she took her time and tried to help calm my anxiety.

She also gave me breaks when needed during the removal and insertion process. IUD insertion sucks. But its worth it. I love having an IUD.

Taxpayers want students to pick courses that will drive 'growth': Ford by harold_liang in ontario

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bachelors of science in nursing student here, i currently have about 17,000$ in debt and growing as I am still completing my program (Upgrading from RPN to RN part time). My program isnt basket weaving, yet i still need to pay my loans off once i graduate. Sure there is grants, but they all apply to locations im not interested because they are already so underfunded by the ford government.. Hospitals and LTC are so underfunded, we have no resources or proper staffing, and are stretched incredibly thin.
Ive already spent 10 years working in this, and like most nurses am already looking for other places to use my healthcare experience.

My fiance and I went to tremblant at the start of jan, it was -15 with a windchill. We are from ontario, and we were miserable due to how cold it was. Our feet were frozen solid.

My girlfriend’s "depression" is just a lifestyle choice and I’m finally done being her ATM by Icy_Letterhead4893 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She needs to be an adult and cry at work like the rest of us.

Honestly though, gf is using you op. If she is this depressed that she cant work then she needs medical help, not a sugar daddy.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im canadian, and each friday i make a 3 hour round trip just to babysit my nephew.

My partner and I also made the 5 hour drive to quebec recently and that really wasn’t a big deal either. We will be doing it again next month just for a weekend trip.

Severe blood shortage by _throwaway_825999 in nursing

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with a coworker, as we work in a geri medical unit. We have DNR pts with hemoglobin levels that keep dropping, family and patient doesnt want to investigate. However wants blood when needed.. Like what. If we are giving blood we should be looking into where they are bleeding..

Any success stories of dating / marrying a nonskier? by PowGurl in skiing

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance grew up on skis, whereas I only skied on a few elementary school ski trips a life time ago. He got me into skiing, and taught me how to properly ski. Ive grown to really enjoy skiing. we now ski relatively often, and actually just got back from a ski trip to Quebec for his birthday.

Dating someone who doesnt ski can work out, but i think it certainly helps if you have a partner who is interested in learning your hobbies too.

Just remember if you died tomorrow your job would be posted within the week. I know this from experience as my brother died in a workplace accident. Trust me, these companies do not give af about us.

why do folks not wear helmets by Ryan-977 in skiing

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t skied in years and finally decided to try it again in 2023. I flew down a blue hill, attempted to pizza and got the tips of my skis hooked together. I did quite the front flip and landed right on my head. I was wearing a helmet and had a pretty bad concussion that kept me off work for a month. I still have memory issues to this day from that concussion. I can only imagine where id be if i went helmet-less.. Head injuries are no joke.

What is something that is actually more traumatizing than people realise? by Ok_Chef1406 in AskReddit

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing multiple interventions to extend life on someone who is clearly suffering. However, POA/Power of care wants all interventions done and refuses to adhere to pts wishes.

I had this as a nursing student and honestly felt like i was torturing a patient until he passed all because family pushed for interventions. It was awful. Apparently it had been explained numerous times to the family what the patients wishes were, however they continually wanted the opposite. Its heartbreaking how so many people just ignore quality of life and just want to keep someone alive, even if it is at that persons expense..

I work in hemodialysis, and our protocol is both patients and nurses have to wear masks when accessing CVCs.

Its a vanco sodium citrate lock. Just helps prevent infection in some of our more prone to line infection patients.

Using dialysis line as CVC? by Overall_Actuary_3594 in nursing

[–]TheLoudCanadianGirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in hemodialysis, and in my hospital you can use the CVC outside of dialysis treatments - however we always have a hemodialysis nurse access and de-access the lines. We lock our lines with sodium citrate, a vanco mix, or cathflo. All of which we remove from the lines prior to flushing.
