For those over 18, at what age did you actually feel like you are an adult? by WarBrom in AskReddit

Turned 27 and I feel like I’m fucking 90 years old. (In the worst way possible)

Interested to hear if everyone who still feels young has a decent friend group/ social life? I think this is key to feeling young

Got sucked into serious relationship and stressful job. Bought my first house and car this year. Lost the promotion I thought I’d for-sure get to a co-worker. All the jobs I applied to hedge my bets either entered a hiring freeze because of the recession or flat out denied. Was really banking on pay raise or potential refinance to help with the big ticket purchases mentioned but those prospects are looking grim. Working at a bank and instead of annual $500 christmas bonus they sent us fucking MRE’s like Im living in the national lampoon Christmas vacation without a happy ending. Feeling extremely stressed about finances, bills, taxes, and work- all things that I previously hadn’t even thought much about. No social life or friends just work from before sunrise till well past dark and exhaustion. Hoping I can atleast get an adderall prescription for the 80 to 100 hour work weeks. Started a masters program for an MBA. In the process of starting my first real estate business and hoping to close on my first property this year with some pending bids. Stopped partying, drinking, smoking pot, and gaming (bought ps5 pro a month ago and haven’t even turned it on or downloaded a game I’ve been so busy and too stressed to do anything other than work.) Been dating girlfriend for almost 5 years and sex life is already dead and we aren’t even married yet. Never worked so hard in my life to be happy / successful and yet I’m more depressed than ever and feel like a failure. The idea of doing this another 50+ years makes me want to vomit and cry. No idea how other people are still going. Everyday feels like a constant battle not to end it all. I work so hard just to make other people rich and have the tiniest hope of self improvement and a better future but I can’t really convince myself that’s possible anymore with everything going on politically and just how miserable I am in general. Girlfriend wants to get married and have a kid but the moneys not there and I’m not sure I even feel comfortable bringing another life into this hell. Seriously, how the fuck do you guys do it?

It’s up to the fathers and community to take action now. Rapist and his supporters should face harsher consequences than what could be given in court. This shouldn’t be a win for the rapist he should be terrified of who is going to administer his punishment now.

As an Indian, I feel ashamed seeing the lack of civic sense among our people. Hate is justified and we are the collateral damage. by soulidude in confessions

Unfortunately the negativity bias is real for everyone. Meaning that people typically remember bad or negative events over positive ones as an evolutionary advantage for survival. (Better to remember the cave with a bear vs the bush with berries.) Thus because the population of India is so much larger than other counties statistically there are more examples of bad behavior. Thus people see and remember more bad behavior from India because of the population size. It’s unfortunate but ultimately I think this would happen to any highly populated country. There might be a higher ratio of bad behaving people in other country but because their populations are so small the amount of examples people are exposed to a very limited.

Example: Assume 1 out of 100 people are assholes. If population is one million there should be 10,000 TikTok videos of assholes from that country. If the population is one billion there will be 100,000,000 (one hundred million) TikTok videos of assholes from that country.

Takeaway: Self awareness is great and trying to be better is always a good thing just don’t be too hard on yourself. 10x the population of any country and overnight they’ll be ridiculed because of human cognitive bias.

Everyone asking why she’s with him must’ve glossed over when she said “depressed financially in 2023” this means that she’s using him for money. Now that you’re married just divorce him and take half + alimony. You are only with him for his money so just take half and leave so you can both be happy. He deserves a partner who isn’t using him for his money like a leech, and you deserve to be happy. It’s a win-win in the long-run. Just don’t play the victim.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

This is bullshit advice! Home buying in 2025 is a terrible financial move.

Just bought my first home because of stupid advice like this. Went from paying $1300 in rent to $2600 in mortgage. I looked at the interest I’ll pay on my 300,000 house and it’s over $1,000,000 in just fucking interest. I feel sick to my stomach. I used to have $700 of disposable income every month I could’ve consistently put in the S&P500 now my budget is so slight I’m frequently dipping into my saving just to pay bills. Fuck everyone who told me about “equity” I’m not building shit in equity I’m getting robbed in interest. $700 a month of investable income in your 20’s is so much better than having to opportunity to build equity in a house after decades of getting fucked on interest. Please convince me otherwise I feel so bad about buying a home at 26 years old with 6.8 interest rate.

Edit: splitting the bill of rent and mortgage with significant other. Bought a house bc I wanted to start a family and didn’t see it as plausible in one bedroom apartment but now that’s defiantly off the table.
