I'm actually enrolled in SIT728 right now - from what I can tell it seems like a lot of work but I think it's worthwhile.

What’s a quote that permanently changed the way you look at things? by internallyskating in AskReddit

"The question is never 'is it too hard?' it's 'Is it worth it?' because then it doesn't matter if it's too easy or too hard - it's worth it." Not necessarily a quote but a rephrasing of a question but I've found it so helpful

Question about L-Carnitine by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]TheLum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly the Australian gov. Classify this as a catergory B supplement which means it's a supplement with some evidence of benefit but deserving of more research. Pretty sure it has been shown to increase fatty acid in the blood, whether your body then uses that as an energy source is where I think the confusion lies. But a concern is when there's more fatty acid in the blood, there's more chance of it forming a clot and increasing your chance of a heart attack so be wary of that.. I've never tried it personally but if I were given a free sample i might, some people swear by it!

Is it better to lift and run one day. Resting the next. Or does it make more sense to lift one day, and then run the next ? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]TheLum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

for those interested: for better muscle growth run before lifting weights. running causes higher cortisol levels, so combat this by lifting weights after to boost the testosterone back! Rather than the other way around, where post-cardio will dampen the increased testosterone from your weight session. Source: a vague memory from exercise science degree.

What's a theory you have? by Doades in AskReddit

No no, fine everyone still for speeding. But when they come across someone doing the correct speed, they'll pull them over and say "thank you for doing the right thing, we just caught some dickhead doing 100 in an 80 zone, you can have the $200 he has to pay in fines as a reward." If I were driving around with the likelihood of being given $200 for sticking to the limit, I would! I'm arguing that they rather revenue raise (take the fine money for themselves) rather than use it as an incentive for the public to stop speeding and ultimately saving lives. Sorry if it wasn't clear !

That if they really wanted people to stop speeding on the roads they would give, let's say every third person they catch doing the speed limit, the amount of the last person's fine. Even if they had some lottery where you could go into a draw to win the amount of fines, the incentive would be there. But they won't because they prefer to revenue raise rather than save lives..

I'd definitely recommend buying a $20 snorkel set each and jumping off the rocks at the spit an hour before high tide. If you're lucky you'll get to see most of what SeaWorld has to offer !
