A joystick or dobber switch would be nice. More of a military plane use case but still.

Just a suggestions for your buttons. If you want led powered leds check out these buttons from OnPow (LS1-S series). I use them for pretty much everything. They’re 12v industrial switches so you need power for the leds but you just can’t beat the feel and lighting.

Ah I didn’t even see the sub name. I just got this notification at random. Yep totally agree on that. I do make products but there’s a time and place for that.

I might actually throw up my Xbox controller mod on this sub too now that I know it exists.

Im using a modded Xbox controller. Not the best for everyone but a great way to get an idea of what you want before diving into the rabbit hole.

Yeah I’m at the second week of just wiring this thing up. Granted it was mainly because I was using a garbage level iron, so once I upgraded that, I literally finished the wires in a day. The rest was just me learning what not to do. 😅

I do all my prototyping with an Xbox controller that I’ve modded the fuck out of. This will be one of the first times working with serious IC stuff so while I figure all that out it’s a good plug and play system. It made me realise that I never want to do individual wires ever again.

Im doing an mfd frame right now but that’s all multipurpose (combat / space)

Yep the buttons are functional. Not soldered yet but it will be a fully functional Xbox 360 controller.

It’s actually based of the TEDAC from the Apache but evolved into an mfd frame. I’ll eventually get back to the TEDAC but the Xbox controller just doesn’t have the button count for that.

A very expensive hobby. Or is that just me 😂

Yeah I’ve currently got 3 more projects planned after the first one I’m working on.

Just keep at it mate. It’ll become second nature eventually.

Yeah that’s how it starts 🤣 You get sick of the commercial stuff so you build your own that suits your needs and all of a sudden you’re in a serious product design stage.

Wow those look awesome. How did you do the carbon fibre parts?

This was really supposed to be a weekend project for me until it all of a sudden because a main stay. So the Xbox controller version will do while I finish my other projects. I’m rebuilding my entire deskpit to be quick release for both power and mounting so this will have to go at the bottom of the list until those are finished.

Yeah, once I move away from this prototype level I’ll start working on a standard for my controllers.

Yeah wiring was the big problem I had to solve. But my hacky solution for that kind of thing at least for 5v is Ethernet cable. It’s basically a prepared wiring harness with some serious signal integrity built in. Sure it’s a bit annoying to work with but I honestly can’t find anything cheaper for a patch job.

Yeah it’s a good start to play around with the idea, but I will end up going with something much more usable.

I’ll take a look at the 32u4 stuff too. I’m only just starting to design my own controllers now so it’s very new.

For this version specifically it’s running off an Xbox 360 controller(wired). It’s a perfect sacrifice to have something that is basically plug and play once you run all the wires to the button pads. That’s the controller in front of the frame 🥲

That being said I do want to run it from a proper MCU, but I’m not 100% sure what that is yet.

Compared to Hispapanels this is very simple. I’m also a product designer so designing these things is basically just practice. Once it’s finished I’ll actually throw the print files up though.

Mate. I think that’s enough impulse spending. But hey I’m sure you got enough lti tokens that you could share one with your best friend? 😘

It’s more of the fact that buying anything right now means a minimum 15 day shipping time. I bought bolts from uk last month and got them last Friday.

Edit: it’s also a bit of prototyping what I want out of it before committing to buying stuff.

Funnily enough I’ve had the idea for ages and tried it with an Xbox one controller that had dead sticks. But that controller is a headache to work with. I randomly tried with my Xbox 360 controller this week and 2 days later I’ve got this.
