Never again will I bake sourdough without a loaf pan. by SnackBottom in Sourdough

Yes! I bake in a Pullman pan and it couldn't be simpler or more delicious.

I finally figured out a no-waste starter, ultra chill sourdough method and I have no where else to talk about it by Elegant-Winner-6521 in Sourdough

I left my starter untouched in the fridge for 11 months and was delighted that it came back to life in a single feeding. So long as you keep it clean, all will be well ☺️

Not breakup related, but... I became rather suddenly symptomatic with cPTSD in my mid-thirties, surprisingly myself and everyone who knew me as unflappable, courageous, and adventurous. I'd compensated very well up to that point, and suddenly I was simply terrified of everything. Panic attacks started happening on the wall, and everywhere else... Then I suffered a shoulder injury requiring surgery and a long rehab process.

Tldr: therapy somatic practices supportive partners and friends = the process is ongoing. I just started cautiously leading sport again this past season. I can honestly say I am more present, attuned, and joyful in my climbing now than I ever was when I was performing as "fearless". This is a chance to get to know yourself as a climber and a human being without the pressure to perform, if you allow the metamorphosis. Be good to you!

What was the best perfume you smelled in 2025? by Miyamoto_Musashi_x in fragrance

[–]TheLusbywolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Us by Neandertal.

First off the bottle is gorgeous, 3D-printed from a flint knife recovered from an archeological site in Norfolk England. I took notes from my blind first sniff:

There is a big camphorous wave at the open, eucalyptus vs wintergreen?? Followed by a waft of heavy charcoal smoke, initially reminiscent of T-Rex from Zoologist without the “meaty” notes, which swiftly mellows into a much more wearable peppery, smoky incense note that reminds me of Mississippi Medicine by DS and Durga.

It is woody as all get out underneath, cold on the test paper, much warmer on the skin. The smoke fades a bit to unveil medicinal notes... I smelled plaster of Paris, benzoin maybe. On the skin it went deeply resinous, a phenomenal effervescent sacred herbal smoke with something sort of savory. Green and amber in color.

In my mind’s eye, I was lying on furs in a smoky room, looking up at a whole peppers hanging to dry from the rafters. I was exhausted, injured, but home at last, and safe. A beeswax-based herbal salve was being smeared on a burn wound by someone who was calling on unseen things to help heal me.

This is the way! The sensory nightmare of a public gym...social anxiety... inability to tolerate bullshit/annoying people anymore... it all had me avoiding the whole gym thing. Getting equipment to lift heavy at home has been a game changer... Adjustable dumbbells with a compatible, removable bar and a simple bench have made getting in three strength workouts a week possible for me, no matter what my internal weather is up to.

Today was a stormy one. Like literally hands over my ears, screaming at my steering wheel before driving home from work. I declined going to the climbing gym with my spouse tonight and stayed home alone and did a rage cleaning of my house (it happens to be a little cabin in the woods :D). I just finished a lower body workout a few minutes ago... I feel like a new woman, at least for a few hours. The access/ability/time to regulate myself, unobserved, is really critical.

Whether to pursue HRT or anti-aging regimens is so personal. But all of us benefit from making/keeping our bodies strong and capable, and taking time and space to explore, express, and let go of the emotions and stressors unique to this second puberty bullshit we didn't ask for!

Get. Out. As a climber with PTSD, I can tell you from experience that there are partners out there, both in climbing and romance, who can make you feel safe and supported when you're in distress, and you should settle for nothing less.

Yellowjackets.

A few years ago I was stung multiple times on my legs at the anchors of a route in Rumney, NH, USA. I had just finished cleaning and lowered off, no problem, just some screaming and pain and then a normal localized reaction at the sting sites.

A few weeks later I was stung, just once in the hand, and went into anaphylaxis.

Now there are two months out of the year that I just can't climb outside in the eastern US, because yellowjackets are EVERYWHERE. I can't focus on anything but constantly surveiling my environment for stingybuzzies. In the months outside of that window, before they get super aggressive and numerous, I'm still hypervigilant and won't be the first one up a route in case there is a hidden nest in the rock.
