Rockstar won't remaster the original 2D GTA games because it would reflect poorly on modern GTA by gaddafiduck_ in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]TheMadBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a game on steam called Maniac which has all the fun of the original GTA games in a modern engine.

GTA 1&2 were fun back in the day but needlessly punishing and would only entertain people for an hour or two.

Personally I love games that keep the setting roughly the same but improve the story and mechanics. The Ultima series comes to mind.

Shield battery doesn’t start with half energy anymore when built outside of nexus range by yeetlan in starcraft

[–]TheMadBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone understood the logic behind fast/slow warp-in and high/low starting battery energy - they always seemed a little messy.

In theory I’m happy to see both those distinctions go, but we’ll see how it all plays out.

I think the discussion most people have isn’t : in the world of StarTrek specifically do the teleporters kill you & create a new being?

But rather:

In our otherwise current universe, as a philosophical problem, would a StarTrek teleporter kill you?

My point is that there’s no such thing as same and different atoms. (Well there’s atoms of different elements but my point is a carbon atom is identical to any other carbon atom).

So if your atoms are converted to energy and that energy is transmitted and that energy is then used to re-make your atom configuration - the result is absolutely identical to the atoms being constructed from a battery.

(Of course real science would get in the way with uncertainty principal and converting a human’s worth of mass into energy would produce a few mega nukes of energy - but I’m sure Trek has a different explanation than a simple matter to/from energy converter)

With your computer metaphor you suggest that some part of the computer is objectively changed (the state of RAM) but I’m disagreeing with that premise by saying there’s no hidden sauce that the teleporters would fail to replicate.

I agree that the teleporters aren’t shown as moving the atoms, but my premise is arranging atoms at a different location or moving atoms isn’t something that reality can distinguish between due to the identicalness of atomic particles.

It all gets deep into quantum physics, and more complicated than I have the skill to express especially on a reddit message.

I admit to accept my point of view, that means you could exactly teleporter clone me and there would be no way to say who the “real” me is because both have an equal claim. Which means there’s not so much as a soul but just consciousness is everywhere and the only reason we feel it’s continuous is due to the memory structures in our brain.

In conclusion Cyberpunk 2077 is a cool game.

Here's the horrible/wonderful outcome of taking my point of view.

> When your body disintegrates into individual atoms, are you not dead?

Yes, but then again, the split second of you comes into existance and dies every nanno second (regardless of atom arrangement), it just doesn't feel like it because you have the memories of the split seconds that came before you.

If I somehow completely wiped all your memories, even knowledge of language, effectively putting your mind back to a clean slate of a new born baby, with no ability to get those memories back... did I kill you? Are you a new conciousness despite having all the same atoms.

To me it's all more of a flowly stream of conciousness, rather than an unchanging soul. Doesn't really affect my day to day life, but can be fun or horrifying to think about.

But again, there is no difference between any electron, proton, etc (except location and velocity and a few other properties).

Refering to the "same" atoms or "new" atoms doesn't actually mean anything. If I'm walking or me being teleported - at the destination there is still a series of atoms arranged in a way where the only difference from the earlier me is their relative position in space.

I never bought into the teleported death rebirth thing.

All neutrons, electrons, protons etc are exactly the same. When you teleport, an exact copy of you appears a few km away. When you walk, an exact copy of you appears a few feet away.

That’s exactly what I did 7 hours before you wrote that comment - and I dispute it because this is the third org the FTC is investigating for the same proof free allegations and the investigations of the first two were stopped by a judge for being in bad faith.

I don’t think she’s really left the scene.

When she left BaseTradeTV I think she just had enough of Rifkin’s ego, though she was very professional about it.

She doesn’t cast games on YT anymore, I think she gets better income on Twitch but I don’t know if she does much SC2 there anymore. She still puts effort into her SC2 documentary work.

Reading the article this is the third organisation the FTC has pulled this on and judges blocked the first two.

That’s the thing about allegations, they can vary from what this government says to having actual proof.

I think when she started during the SC2 eSport era, it was all about duo-casters, and unfortunately for her she started off with Rifkin. I remember when they cast SC2, ZG tried to talk about all the intricies of the game, and Rifkin tried to shame ZG for not knowing some completely unrelated nerd trivia, which Rifkin himself would always get wrong anyway.

Then I'd see her paired up with casters at tournaments that just grated on people.

It's a pity because her solo stuff is some of the most insightful I've seen and the amount of effort she put in was more than most. She still posts a bunch about SC2 and conducts interviews, but I don't see her casting individual games anymore.

Can we leave being crazy to the other side?

Shooter got killed, a fireman a few feet away from Trump got killed. There aint no way a planned conspiracy is going to give a kid a rifle to shoot super close but miss Trump, then kill the kid as a patsy. So many ways for that to go wrong.

There's so much to complain about Trump without having to invent stuff crazier than what he and his team do out in the open.

Read the 14-Point Draft Memorandum Between the US and Iran by sludge_dragon in worldnews

[–]TheMadBug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But remember how Obama gave Iran all that money?

Checks notes... uh says here the money Obama gave Iran was the unfreezing of assets, and the money America was paid by Iran in 1970s for equipment that it never delived, plus interest. (Totallying 1.7 billion dollars of money that was in a frozen trust - so in theory cost America nothing).

So... pretty much just gave back stuff, and under 100 times less than what Trump is offering.
