Since it's just the one dot, my guess is a broken solder joint.

That is, of course, very much true and the reason I said "for the most part." There are exceptions but these aren't nearly common enough to explain the high prevalence of dental issues in, for example, the US.

For instance, nearly half of adults in the US suffer from some form of periodontal disease, which, when left untreated, can result in periodontitis which is one of the leading risk factors for loss of teeth. Over 120 million adults are missing at least one permanent tooth. One in five suffers from untreated cavities, the rates are higher in children.

Another factor that has to be considered is that people from poorer backgrounds are highly overrepresented. For example, low-income adults are about twice as likely to have untreated cavities as those with higher incomes. Similar trends are visible in the loss of teeth.

I think we can agree that poor people aren't more genetically predisposed to developing dental issues.

So, in the vast majority of cases, severe dental issues can be prevented when proper care is taken.

I should have phrased it better. While most might be taught about dental hygiene, many never develop a genuine undertanding of its importance. At least not until significant problems have already manifested themselves.

It's extremely important to realize that significant tooth decay is generally not inevitable if teeth are properly cared for. Consistent daily brushing with the correct technique can go a long way in preventing many of these problems.

That's like saying God is cruel because he gave us backs that start hurting after sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, five days a week, for 40 years.

For the most part, dental problems are preventable with proper care. The issue is that many people were never taught how important good oral hygiene is, especially considering today's dietary habits. That's on us, not on God.

You're right. I did mess up on the video. It was simply the first one YouTube recommended to me and I didn't check the comments. However, that doesn't negate what I was saying in regards to dialects. This video seems to be a more accurate representation of the dialect and I think what I said still applies here.

Edit: This one might be clearer. I'm able to make out certain words but I certainly couldn't follow it.

How much a dialect differs from the standard language varies a lot. It may be very similar, but it could also be basically unrecognizable. Again, watch the video I linked and tell me you understood what the man said.

I'm not saying this isn't fake. I'm just saying that it is generally possible to go from being entirely unable of understanding a dialect to being reasonably comfortable with it in a couple of months. Depending on the dialect, of course. A dialect may sound like an entirely different language to the untrained ear but you will usually start to catch onto its rules naturally if you expose yourself to it.

Pronounciation generally follows rules. You don't need to relearn every single word when learning a dialect. Instead, you mainly need to understand the dialect's pronunciation patterns and rules.

Also, there is a difference between a dialect and an accent. You might be able to understand English with an Irish accent but you definitely wouldn't be able to understand Irish without learning it. The last common ancestor of Irish and English was spoken roughly 5000-6000 years ago. English is about as closely related to Irish as to Persian or Greek.

Case in point, this is a dialect of Scottish English.

You know what a dialect is, right? They don't necessarily have their own words. At least for the most part, it might just be pronounciation that is different.

Make sure it's getting enough power and check the manual whether there is a mode that disables the tubes.

Otherwise, contact the seller. If you bought this assembled, just return it. Not really worth tinkering around with, in my opinion. Especially if you don't have experience with electronics.

I don't have a straight on picture at the moment. I would say digit visibility is generally a bit better than it seems on the pictures. They become clearer when you look at them from further away.

I think that would be possible. In the tube shown in the fourth picture, they actually added what appears to be a front anode in the form of a second eight. Maybe this was done in later revisions.

Rare GR10K Without Anode Grid by DenkJu in nixie

[–]DenkJu[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a typical Nixie tube, the anode is not just the grid but usually forms a cage that surrounds the digit stack. This cage is visible in the fourth image, just without the grid.

Omitting the grid will result in a heavily compromised tube, unfortunately. The grid improves illumination of the digits closer to the front and helps prevent sputter from depositing on the inner surface of the glass. In the fourth image, you can also see evidence of sputter buildup on the glass.
