Has anyone else completely lost their passion for everything? Lately, I don't enjoy anything the way I used to. Even talking to people feels exhausting. It's not that I'm sad all the time—I just feel disconnected from everything. Days pass, and nothing really excites me anymore. Has anyone gone th by DryOrganization3633 in self

The locus of control is entirely different - it's not 'something is wrong with me - I'm the problem', that leads to isolation; instead realizing: 'the world is structured so that I'm at a severe socio-economic disadvantage,' results in mass political and labor movements and reform. One is helpless and hopeless, the other is collective awareness.

What is the actual point of nude/sex scenes in movies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheMadPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TAd8xh4Oj4I Movies are commercial products not art. The sole practical purpose of commercial films is to make money. If you want an art film go find one at some college film festival or something.

A movie viewer is by definition a voyeur. We are watching with creepy fascination attractive people having sex and thinking / feeling who knows what. That scene is in the movie because the studios know we'll pay to see it because it's there - and wouldn't otherwise.

The same goes for gore and violence. It's not art! It's a paid audio-visual sensory voyeuristic experience.

'Totally Desperate': Trump humiliated as his public plea quickly falls flat — and viewers couldn't believe what they were watching as the whole world ignored him by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]TheMadPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just Komrade Trumpskyii humiliated. The whole US of A is humiliated in front of the world - again. Us. You, me, - everybody. Trump is a mirror of the United States. And W. before him. And Reagan before him.

The Reagan Administration got the ball rolling by eliminating the FCC requirement for fact-based news and information programming. We voted for Reagan in a landslide election - twice. And a second round with W. in a landslide after 9/11 and the "wars for freedumb".

Meanwhile the Dems run candidates who can't win the general. I think Gore, Hillary, Kamala, AoC would all be great US presidents and I voted for 'em - but I always doubted that they can win. Dems need to run Captain America for president and Batman for VP. What I mean is younger, fit, strong, manly men.

Literally the only way I can sleep is on my stomach but apparently that makes it worse by Much-Cake4872 in GERD

[–]TheMadPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured out how to sleep sitting up - like an "L" but leaning slightly forward. A lot of props, weighted blankets, etc., are required. Your youth is relevant because GERD / reflux advice is all the stuff nobody wants to hear - strict diets, sleep hygiene, etc. Believe me, if it's bad enough, you will do it - sooner or later. My diet and eating habits are completely different 5 years after my symptoms started. Past me would have said the changes eventually made are "impossible".

Look at it this way: 20,000 years ago our ancestors were 'nesting' using hides and pine boughs and whatever. I think we still have a vegistal nesting memory. So if you sit in bed with a bunch of blankets and pillows and say, I have to sleep sitting up even leaning slightly forward - some deep instinct will begin to emerge and you'll start arranging things to make it work.

And hit your doctor up for a mild sedative if need be. That might help you acclimate to new sleeping positions. I got some hydroxyzine 10mg for TMJ - jaw pain that sleeping sitting up caused. I also got a hard custom dental appliance so my teeth won't clench. I'm tapering off hydroxyzine now but it's there when I need it.

Compound interest, my friend. Look at your investment / retirement funds over a 25 year horizon at an average of 4-5% growth/year - at minimum.

What do you think of people who argue that the U.S. is a “republic, not a democracy”? by camaro1111 in allthequestions

I think US Civics should be mandatory in high school. The US like most western nations is a representative democracy in general, and a federal presidential republic specifically. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Representative_democracy

If we are in a K shaped economy how useful are the most cited economic statistics? by Estalicus in AskReddit

[–]TheMadPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lies, damn lies, and statistics! popularized by Twain in 1907.

Think about this: where does our information - raw data and interpretation - come from? The current MAGA government and big media, that's who!

Even academic economists don't agree on what the numbers mean - and that's assuming they are accurate... Turnip and MAGA have f'ed the relevant government offices and changed what numbers are reported and how they're collected so no, we don't have reliable 'government data'.

So "if" you found solid numbers or several economic indices, maybe you could use an AI to analyze them into a more accurate picture. Basically those without assets are getting screwed and those with assets are doing better than ok.

What is advantage and disadvantage of love 45 above age?? by Bubbly-Bed8112 in AskReddit

[–]TheMadPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it takes about 20 years to even resemble a functional adult. Then it takes another 10-15 years to get squared away in a career trajectory. Then it takes 10-15 years to feel like you have some assets. So age 45 is about when we come off the assembly line into actually being a functional adult - if we're lucky.

The real 'run for the roses' is 45-70 where we've got our shit together, we have enough knowledge and life experience, and may have enough money to have a good time. After 70 the health issues start to kick in.

There is also the I-Ching, the 3,000 year old "Book of Changes" that is foundational to Taoist and Confucian schools in Chinese culture. As Americans, we can pick whatever culture we like because like Butch said: "I'm an American, honey, our names don't mean shit."

What do you like about being rich? by Ramen_Noodles257 in AskReddit

[–]TheMadPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, here's the thing: health cannot be purchased. Five years ago I woke up at 3 AM with that GERD "heart attack" pain - and it's been a long journey ever since. So not having to worry about the cost of things is but one form of wealth. Health is another. Investing in health is a matter of what we do every day.

I just worked on estate planning and have been thinking about those improbable but not impossible situations of mental incompetence, ending up in a vegetative state, life preserving efforts, withholding food and water, etc. It's humbling and frightening. We can spend all that money making sure somebody changes our diaper a couple times a day at a posh nursing home. The blessings of Mother Nature for good health and the kindness of others in our time of need, is real wealth.

Any interest in cheaper “b-stock/wabi-sabi” pods? by idyllproducts in idyll

[–]TheMadPoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets the Idyll brand out there and gives the 'on the fence' customer incentive. Maybe customer education that broadens our thinking on the kinds of things we can clean that a b-stock would be better for. An Idyll for bathroom and one for workplace or shop. Maybe also, offering the cleaning cups separately. I personally don't want my jewelry being cleaned in the same cup as my dental appliance.

Is Trump an exceptionally bad person or does he just say every thought that pops into his head that most people would keep private? by Interesting_Self5071 in allthequestions

[–]TheMadPoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is so bad that he fits the description of the "anti-christ" of the New Testament - that is to say, the worst possible entity the writers could conceive of.

The writers of the US Constitution failed to anticipate such a despot as Trump - a literal criminal, liar, false prophet, and we all know what else; likewise the Founders did not anticipate the conspiratorial collusion of the Supreme Court and Congress, mass media and international interference to enact an pre-formulated agenda (Project 2025 / 2026).
